Dallas to Florida in 1 day
My friends are taking a cruise which leaves port in florida. from dallas to miami
They think they can make it in 1 day. I would think at least 2 days. Your thoughts? If they did make it in 1 day, to me it would mean speeding and consistent 24 hour driving. I would think the chance of something wrong happening would be greater then them actually making it.

It's definitely possible. I drove from Milwaukee to Daytona once in about 22 hours being the sole driver. Just need a good sleep before you leave and after you arrive. It's not pleasant, especially the last few hours. I wouldn't do it again.

i've done dallas to tampa a few times. it's a very long, boring, and exhausting drive. i would recommend doing it in two days. dallas to miami is much, much longer than even tampa. florida is a long state to conquer. why don't you just fly?

also take into account that just the state of florida alone will account for over half of the drive. FL panhandle is straight and flat for hundreds of miles, then I-95 to miami isn't much better, and equally long. last thing to factor in is how exhausted you're gonna be from the drive. you're going on a cruise, which is supposed to be pleasurable and relaxing, and i'm willing to bet that you guys will all be sick of each other from being in such close quarters by the time you get to miami. save the stress and find a cheap airfare. or if you insist on driving, you can go cheaply and chill with all the questionable people of the world on... |

No way I would attempt that. God forbid you hit an accident on I-10 or I-75/the Turnpike you could spend 4 hours or longer sitting still and not moving. Not to mention how ridiculously monotonous the drive is.
Plus being wedged in a car with 5 people? Screw dat.

you're lucky you aren't going
Myself and a buddy went from Toronto area down to Ft. Myers, we stopped after 20 hours because he felt sick, I was still good, but it just wasn't worth risking going further. I did the same thing by myself a few years later. I did 20 hours, and was super wired, but I know how flat and boring Florida actually is. And add on top of that, I spent 90% of the trip in snow and rain, so figured the smartest thing was to pull over and recharge. Could have done it, but to push is silly. Especially with the night time driving, you don't know what animals you might hit, and as someone else mentioned, traffic jams and etc. They might miss their boat by trying to be heros. |

I went from Atlantic City, NJ to Colorado Springs, Co in 2 days...
from Colorado Springs to Post Falls, ID in a day... The trips are 1800miles and 1100 miles each. I've done each trip multiple times and each time I beat my previous record. It's doable. |

by yourself? or with help? what were your stops? that's pretty decent distance, especially having to do the time change losing hours. Gaining hours is so much easier.

I did Columbus, OH to Tampa in 14 hours by myself in my 99 M3. 1050 miles. Loved it actually. I agree that Florida is so boring to drive. Never driven in the pan-handle.

By far the worst state to drive through is Kansas... 450+ miles of nothing... I70 doesn't even hit the two "major" cities. I hate Kansas...

Just happened today on I-75 by Gainesville...
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headline...75-in-florida/ That is why you shouldn't attempt it in one day.
