Early 2007, Another Dme Failureeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is ridiculous, the amount of money you pay for one of these cars and the more and more i read about this problem it keeps happening, 56k on my motor. WAS running JB3, 3inch DP's, AA charge pipe, BOV, Full straight pipe exhaust with open res's, H&R coils, Wave track rear.
Anyway, was driving the other day, went to down shift to pass a car and get on it just for some fun in 4th gear, boost hit 16psi, back to 11psi at 4 grand, then back to 15-16psi from 4500 to 6200rpm, around 6200 heard a very loud pop noise, thought at first it was a charge pipe or a boost line pop, but no, Mis fired all the way home with no bank 2. Pulled in the garge, ended up letting it sit for awhile, changed spark plugs because i was due anyway, didnt change a thing. Took it into BMW and it's reading INTERNAL MALFUNCTION DME 30bb, Multiply misfire and no fire at all on bank to. Machanic is telling me when the DME went out it took the coil packs with it in bank 2, So now with NO warrenty left i have to pay for a NEW DME, and to recode it. NEW coil packs, after just replacing spark plugs, "which if you have a 335 know how stupid costly they are". So roughly right now i'm at around 2-3 grand worth of time and money into this stupid ass DME failing. Is there anyone out there that has a better solution for this problem? "And by better i mean cheaper" ha 07 335 DME- |

I would ask for a goodwill repair since this is a known issue but your best bet would be to remove the tune beforehand. |

The dme failed just like that? Thats fkn weird man. i can understand failure while programing but it makes no sense to me that it would just fail like that.
Did you smell like electrical smoke? Maybe the dealer tried reprograming and fried your dme and are blaming it on you?? |

Thank God I'm an October 2006 build! At 90K miles, mine should have taken a shit by now. Financially, I'm not fit enough to take another major failure, since my water pump cleaned me out a while ago. I'm just crossing my finger that my LPFP lasts till I can save up some $$.
This is nonsense though. BMW has shameful reliability. Such a pity too since these cars are such animals at the track. BMW should do a recall on a sad joke like this! |

Few options to try:
Not sure if it will work, but i have my original dme, but if it can be coded for your car - There is no reason (at least electronically) that it shouldnt be able to be coded - but the dealership may not have the tools/software to do that. Maybe an indy shop? or - order the Power kit since you'd get a new dme as part of it (most 07's do) or - take the dme to an electronics repair shop - Diodes are easy to test and replace - I even do electronics repair and could try to repair it if you wanted. PM me if you want any help. |

Try http://www.autoecu.com. They don't have the ECU listed but they do repair all sorts of control modules and components. We used them to fix an E46 convertible top module.
Whew, mine is a 07/2006 build.

Double check, but I thought the DME was covered for 7 years under emissions warranty...it's in the owner's manual somewhere

power kit?
Whole new ecu/dme for 600 bucks? why wouldn't everyone do this then when having DME failure? Are you happy with it? what advantages does it give me over the OEM DME?
