Microfilter replacment

Not for my E92 but on my E70 X5.

Not wanting to be miserable but given it needs oil service, brake fluid, 4 tyres and front/rear brakes its going to be expensive. Went to dealer today asking about cost of oil service and they told me it also needs microfilter.

How often do these need replaced?
Is it essential?
Doesn't seem to show in service details in Idrive therefore I assume if I don't change it then nothing will show as required in the schedule?
Is it an easy DIY job and where to buy the filter or filters?
How much are they?

Dealer has quoted £110 hence my reluctance to just let them go ahead.

Usually it is around 39-50 from BMW (and cheaper after market) and pretty simple DIY job.

If its like the E9x it should be in idrive and replacement should be time based. The time can vary due to market (e.g. shorter in sandy climates)

It only filters cabin air, so not really important mechanically - easy DIY, part estimate should be 20-30 quid (eurocarparts etc) or less even with oem parts. Reset on idrive is easy as for other service items - threads on here for that.

Does it show up in the Idrive service menu for an E90, my X5 does not seem to have it as an option but the service desk in my dealer mentioned it when they read the key.

Yes, its one of the items in the service list, along with brakes, oil, inspection, mot dpf etc.

Press i on idrive, then select the service menu that shows how many miles to go for brakes etc.
