Tips for buying my first slingshot?

I've noticed that there are a few gun owners on this board, but not a whole lot of peeps who can shoot a mean slingshot. I've been wanting to buy a gun for a long time but went shooting slingshots with a friend and wifey for the first time yesterday and we had so much fun. After thinking it over for a while, I think I want a slingshot instead of a gun now, and the wife is on board.

In CA, I can pretty much walk into any hunting shop, and walk out with any slingshot without filling out any paper work. I don't have a tainted record and already have the paperwork to get my handgun permit already but figured I may want to start off with a slingshot first.

That leads me to either Daisy Powerline P51 or Ringshot by Shira Nahon. My main concerns are reliability and ease of use. I specially hate it when a badly designed slingshot, zaps you back on your own fucking fingers instead of the target you are trying to shoot at or worse, shoots your own eye out

. What is the best way to go about buying a good slingshot? There are many places to choose from where I live so there is no limit to what I can find really. SoCal residents love their slingshots (specially for shooting at asshole drivers on our Freeways). I want to make sure I'm getting a good deal.
