New Member... couple quick questions
Hello everyone, my forum name isn't hoping for an M7, however hot that would be, its just my name with my last initial, and who know's what the 7 is for...anyways a few questions regarding the 330xi that I am considering purchasing...
I currently drive a 2001 jetta 1.8t, and i love the car, but am worried about the build quality of another german car, do you guys and girls have any reliability problems with the new 3 series? i am worried that this may not be a reliable car, i am 21 years old and this is gonna be my first BMW. i'm excited about it, i have been trying to decide between a acura tl or tsx and a bmw 330xi, i really want the all wheel drive, please give me some insight into the quality of this vehicle. i have already read most of the posts on this forum no one seems to be complaining about reliabilty but figured i would come out and ask directly. thanks people! |

I was considering Audi or BMW and I went with the Bimmer, no regrets! Great car!
My brother in law has an E46 330xi and hasn't had any problems. My sister drives one of those Acuras and now she wants a Bimmer. I would too, ugly car for the money IMO.

To be fair and honest, the 2005/6 E90 is way too new to expose any long term reliability issues -- one cannot say either way. So far, the majority of complaints have been minor including rattles and software/computer/functionality related...nothing major like fire hazards, engines dying, etc. The car is well-made and deserves to be looked at seriously -- more so if you are thinking about a new car. Good luck and make the right choice.
PS. No Japanese car drives like a BMW, none.

we have had 6 Bimmers so far in the familly (me, 2 and my father, 4). No problems with any of them. Sure there are always little things that can happen to any brand. but nothing important. So far, the E90 is too young to really know.
Forgot, my father's 545i had quite a lot of problems. Mostly all related to iDrive and elevtronics all of which were refined and upgraded with the E90. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

my last car was an Acura Integra and when I got it I thought it was a nice quality car (especiallly for my price range at the time) bu tafter owning my E90 I really don't think Acura is up to the same quality. It is certainly better than American cars but not nearly the level of BMW. The car got little dents from the sligtest bump from someone else's car door, the leather seats seemed were very worn after only 3 years and low milage.
While I can't tell you how an E90 will age I can tell you Acura did not meet my expectations over time and you are starting with better quality on the BMW to begin with. |

The japanese cars will last longer and be more reliable, but you will probably not be as happy with them, unless you don't have very high expectations.

I would get the E90 because it suits your age well, has a good resalve value, and the handing of this car is exceptional as well as the interior/exterior design compared to the other cars you mentioned
My family owns a 03 X5 and we haven't had a single problem with it so far. I had my E90 for over 2 months now and no problems yet!

But still, you cannot compare an Integra with a 330 or 325. They're not the same kind of car. Also, Acura's are cars that likes, loves, to be redlined and high rev'd. Otherwise, they lose some kick and fun. However, the newer ones, namely TL, have changed that a little (going for 6 cyl). Don't forget these are all FWD: not the same dynamics as RWD. Even in AWD, they usually favor the front. It's all a matter of taste. Personnaly, I grew tired of high-rev'g cars and FWD. I simply love my BMW.

I really don't think that you will have many problems with a BMW. Sure there are a few lemons and sure the E90 being so new there might be something discovered down the road. We have 4 years to find it at their expense, so I am not worried about it. Our family has had close to 20 BMW's over the past 40 years and we haven't found a reason to stop buying them.
