Thumbs up Newbie E90 335I Questions, Mileage, Chip, Baby Seats, Best Year

Previous BMW owner and BMWCCA member looking to come back and have some "Newbie" questions:

--Best year to purchase an E90 335I any opinions? I understand a facelift was done in 2009 (2007 and 08 are so much less expensive)

--Warranty, Standard warranty and recommendations on a third party warranties, obviously CPO is a better option if available.

--What are the typical nuances of the 335? Things to look for when buying and things to watch out for when owning (hence question about warranties above)

--Anyone who has a child seat or two in the back-can you tell me if it’s manageable?

--Expected Mileage - I have a Tundra Crew Cab and getting killed in mileage, my concept is to make a change to a 2009 or so E90 (maybe a E92) -can someone tell me what to realistically expect for mileage?

--ECU upgrades Also, is there any available which allows you to retain the factory ECU mapping during normal driving conditions and during a race day (Autocross or a day at Sebring) allows you to change the mapping.

Thanks for any responses, Bill

i personally get anywhere between 18 and 25mpg depending on how i drive. i imagine i could get 28mpg easily on a long drive.

as for ecu upgrades, look into JB4. lots of cool menus and you can switch maps on the fly, from the dash

1. Do you want iDrive? 2009 the new iDrive arrived

2. Can't say anything about warranties

3. Nuances exclusive to the 335, N54. HPFP, that is almost not an issue anymore. Wastegate rattle. Some injector problems.

4. Can't say about child seats but 4 adults can comfortably sit in the E90.

5. Mileage, depends how you drive. I get 30mpg on the highway and 19 city, but I'm rolling in a 328.

6. Upgrades, numerous. For ECU you have JBs, Cobbs, and Procedes. Once you have a 335 then you worry about this stuff.
