Quit job and go to school
Hello everyone. Long story short I've been working as a cashier at Exxon Mobil for 3 years. The pay is a little bit over min wage. I recently applied to school to be a auto mechanic and would love to work for BMW one day. It has been my dream since I was a little man. So let me get to the point. I hate my job with a passion. My boss is unfair and always has an excuse for everything. I applied to school full time m-Friday. I would like to devote my time to school more. Also I have been in a battle with depression and bipolar disorder. My boss just loughs at the fact that it's all in my head. Excuse my language but this bitch Dosent know what she is talking about and how hard it is living with this. I have the greatest parents. They help me here And there when they can but I try to do everything myself to the best I can. Now I don't know if I should quit and focus on school or try to do both. It's really making me fell worse and don't know what to do. Maybe some of you guys can relate to this. I'm 22 and willing to do my hardest in school.

Sell the BMW, get a beater, focus on school. Somewhere along the line you lost focus on what should be a priority. Good luck and I hope you get to work for BMW one day.

If your parents are supportive, quit the job and go to school. Life is too short to hate what you do at the age of 22. Making a change is easy, thinking about change is the hard part. Do it and do not look back.

I am behind you 100%. If you want to work for BMW, then by all means go for it. I don't fault anyone who wants to better themselves.
Best of Luck on your journey! |

Well, I'm just glad it's being addressed. I have a family member who has battled those issues, and when left unaddressed, everything can be a battle.
Go to school. Better yet, go to school for something you like. I don't know what your family's financial status is, but you can apply for works study and Federal Aid, get a part time college kid job, and enjoy building your life. You're probably not headed anywhere fantastic working as a clerk at a gas station. I'm not knocking you at all or trying to make you feel bad, it's just that's not such a great path to future success and happiness UNLESS that's really what you want to do forever (which it may or may not be, I don't know). |

Thank you. This job stresses me out and intact makes my symptoms worse. I know that this job is not going to get me anywhere . I start school April 23 and really look forward to it. My father always wanted me to be a carpenter but I just couldn't get the hang of it. On the other hand give me a car and parts and il dig in that car for days on end. I always felt a sense of accomplishment working with my car and others car. I have spend countless of hours learning about cars and how to do everything. I just dread waking up and being here for 8+ hours and dealing with scumbags. The only thing I'm getting out of this job is 35 hours a week plus minimum wage awesome right. My ultimate goal is work for BMW and open up my own shop one day.

Making decisions like buying an E90 on minimum wage won't bring you your own business. You're going to have to suffer if you want to make a good enough living to provide for your tastes. I would also do a little research on what BMW technician makes.
Get a better degree and hire a certified mechanic.

You're 22 and on antidepressants, driving a 50k car when it was new, working at Exxon. I'm assuming you live at home too? I'm not trying to be a dick, but instead of justifying your bad decisions which obviously hasn't led you far, start asking the questions to change it.
Get in school, live frugal, and suffer until you've made enough that you can be your own boss.

Ok guys I don't want any fighting in this thread. Collin your right and wrong. Your right becouse I did make some bad decisions down the road and it took me a while to pull myself together. Where you are wrong is that you will never walk in the same shoes I did. I was a life guard way before Exxon Mobil and was making a good 16 an hour. That was before i was diagnosed with bi polar and depression Becouse at that time I felt worthless and at times wanted to take my own life. But I pulled it together got the car I wanted a job the one I am at now. So everyone's story is different no matter who you are. Its not easy nothing is easy in this economy and society but somehow I'm still here to talk about it with you guys and that's what matters.

A guy comes to this forum on advice, I gave correct advice. Not everyone gives advice on a pink wagon with unicorns. You telling him to ignore me could steer him down the exact path he is, it's up to him to decide what he wants to hear.
Why have you worked for three years OP? For a car? What did you do between high school and now?

Now, you're going to have to live cheap and get help from your parents if they can. Get a part time job, plenty of things you can do and I would go by financial aid at your school and see what they might have. Start school and figure out what you really want, and go from there.
