Software Update and BMW Assist
I just got my car updated last week with version 19.2 and over the weekend and on Sunday I used the SOS button to call Assist becasue I just got my plates in and they had asked me to call them to update my information. Anyway, once the connection was made they said that my car data was not transfering(location, mileage, service stuff...). At first we thought it was because of the location becasue I have shitty reception by my house and there are a lot of tall buildings. I then went to an open area and the same thing happend, only the voice call made it through and not the data. I told them about the update and they said it could be because of it, I am calling my SA and he said that the update shouldnt have anything to do with Assist. The only thing he could think of is that it hasnt "turned on" yet because everything was flashed during the update. Im bringing it in later this week so they could figure it out.
If you have Assist and got the update go and press the SOS button and ask your operator if your data transfered, this could be bad if it deals with the new CIP.

Oh, that a bump. sorry to hear that. I recently used BMW assist and they were able to locate my location and get my car info without me telling them. I am not sure they got the car info from the data transfer or the car info was already in the database. But they were able to locate my whearabout I guess from GPS.

puck - I had posted a warning on another thread that this could happen. My SA told me they had a couple cars that this happened to when they did the update. BMW certainly knows about this problem!

I had this same problem when I first got my car. Thought I was going to have to take it back in to have them look at the SOS.
Turns out, you just go into the options menu in I Drive (press down on the bottom from the main screen), go to communication settings and make sure the services are enabled. By default on my car they came disabled, the minute I enabled them it was working perfectly. Hope this helps. |

It appears that on the latest s/w version the bmw assist signal meter is no longer always shown. The signal meter only appears when you have the BT phone connected.
FYI

If you are contacting BMW Assist and there is no signal shown, something is wrong.

In your case, it is likely that something either needs recoding or got fried (namely the Assist module).
