Wagner intercooler

Anyone have any experience with this intercooler the one shown is a tube and fin but a bar and plate option is available for no additional cost. Price is $690 at Wagner located in CA. Like the fact is uses the factory hoses.

Looks a lot like Helix's design if you ask me.

I'm using it too, it works great. Virtually no pressure drop and low IAT's. Only problem is the black paint is starting to come off (I've had it about 2 years now), and that doesn't look too good IMO.

I've done several laps at the Ring (Nürburgring) and never had a heat soak problem or a heat induced limp mode. Oil temp decreased on average ~8°C (14F) compared to the factory FMIC.

Joe. Thanks. Do you have the tube and fin or is it bar and plate. Saw a picture of the tube and fin and was not that impressed with the quality around the fin/end-cap joint.

As for your iat I guess it's comparable to some of the other well known brands?

As for the peeling paint is noticeable when looking at the car?

I have a Wagner intercooler, but it is a completely different model (see my sig for review).

The one shown here is a smaller, no-cut-needed, tube-and-fin intercooler with factory couplings. I have a bigger one which is bar-and-plate, requires cutting and doesnt' have factory couplings. The one shown here weights 6kg, while mine weights 9kg.

However, the quality of the intercooler is very good. I like the cast end-tanks. At least mine was indistinguishable from a Helix as far as IATs (I have tested with a friend which has the Helix). Not sure about the smaller one.

Thanks for the info but this seems to be the big brother that is a bar and plate and does not use the stock piping.

You're welcome. I have tube and fin, and the quality isn't exactly stellar, but it's ok. Inside it is very smooth I think.

I have a friend with a e90 335i/JB4 and the HPF intercooler and we have almost the exact same IATs under same load/conditions.

Unfortunately the peeling paint is visible, which is why it is bothering me. I think that any painted/colored FMIC would have that problem though

Joe do you have the big version or the smaller version that mounts directly to the stock piping as shown in the first thread

Everyone seems to think bar and plate is better. Is the oem a tube and fin design?

The smaller version was developped for the 135.

Yes.

And I don't think the bar & plate is better. The bar & plate is just easier to cut into shape and be used by tuners.

If the Wagner tube and fin was available when I got my intercooler (it was released much later), I think I would have got that because:

- No cutting required
- It's lighter and it does not put too much stress on the 2 bolts that hold the intercooler in place
- Uses factory couplings
- I trust tube & fin designs

That pretty much sums it up. Thanks

Now that you mention it, I think mine is the big one actually. Needed to change/ugrade the bolts. As far as I remember it came with a short tube and a short piece of piping as well. Loks exactly the same though....
