Hit by a FedEx truck, advice?
I came out of a meeting yesterday afternoon to find a FedEx envelope on my windshield. It said "Our courier accidentally tapped your rear bumper" and then went on to apologize and tell me that she had taken pictures and was filing a report and to call 1-800-FEDEX and ask for risk management. I called them this morning and opened a case with them, and they said that an adjuster would get back to me in 3-5 business days and to not get it fixed until then.
I guess it's a good thing that the damage looks to be just cosmetic. The impact punched 5 holes in the rear bumper cover, probably from bolts on their bumper, and scuffed it up pretty good. I took it to the body shop this morning, and they're estimating about $1500 to repair (replacing the bumper with an OEM part). The rear parking sensors appear to be working, so it looks like nothing was seriously damaged there. Anyone else been thru something like this with FedEx and have any advice? My car's a 2008 335xi coupe with sport package and rear parking sensors. I was planning to just replace it with the OEM bumper, but wouldn't mind any advice in that regard as well. Thanks. |

It sounds like they will take care of everything, and I'm sure it's common.

Apparently the corporate insurance took care of it.
Just insist to go repair at a shop you prefers.

I don't understand what kind of advice you're looking for. Seems pretty straight forward. They'll pay for the damages. They will have to replace it with OEM since you can just sue them if they try to get cheap. Still confused as to what you want advice on. You want to know if more of us have been hit by Fedex and should share our experience with you?

I am also interested in the M-sport bumper idea. Would it be better to go with OEM an aftermarket option? Would it look good if I didn't have the rest of the m-sport package? I wouldn't want it to look "pieced together" or out of place. I'll search for some pics to see what I can learn. I've only had the car 2 months, and hadn't really thought much about making changes to the bumpers (yet)... |

I don't think it would look out of place if it was the only M sport part. Lots of people do it one part at a time, and it never looks weird (in my opinion.) Honestly, there's about a 1% chance anybody other than you will ever realize it's the only mod (except for people on here obviously.)

They had their adjuster look at it and they were quick (1 week) with getting back to my attorney about the situation. It drew out longer because their insurance denied the case TWICE. There was some back and forth between AoA and their insurance during this time (not sure of the details) which took another month. My attorney explained this to me as the possible reason: The thing about corporate insurance - they rely on (insert company's name here)'s business. They better be quick on it, otherwise FedEx can look elsewhere. And that's A LOT of business. I'm sure your case won't be the direct cause of something like that (as mine probably was), but it is a statistic in their books that I'm sure they keep diligent track of. Be very glad they left a letter for you and took responsibility for the accident. Because my attorney served as my "middle man", it took 2 weeks to verify the replacement was okay. Once I was okay with the replacement coverage, I got the check mailed within three days. The day I got the check, I bought my 335.
