Vacationing by yourself
Who's done it?
I have vacation time piling up at work and if I don't find some time to relax real soon, I think I'm going to lose it. My only problem is that I'm currently single and all my friends are either unavailable or just can't afford to go right now. I have no problems with spending time alone but the thought of going away somewhere by myself seems strange to me. I hear of people doing it all the time... anyone have any thoughts? |

Go to a race school for a few days Then get there and see the beautiful girl standing on the other side of the group while on the track standing by your cars listening to the instructor. Then notice she has no ring on, strike up a conversation, find out she is single. Then watch her drive her car like she stole it, being the best driver in the class, and realize she just became that much hotter and you her. Then get her number, discover she lives less than an hour from you. Start dating, go on vacation in a few months together. Get married, come back to this forum, and PM me a BIG THANK YOU!!!!!: Your welcome

when I read your thread title, I thought it was an euphemism akin to 'having a date with Rosy Palm', " Evicting the testicular squatters", " Putting the seminal luge team through their paces"

I traveled through Europe by myself for 6 months. I would do it again in a heartbeat. You can go where you want when you want and I find you meet a lot more people when you are by yourself rather than when you are with other people.

I spend two painfull hours in my car every day just commuting to work. As much as I love my car, I couldn't take being in it any more than I already am.
My idea is more along the lines of finding the polar opposite point of Wilmington, DE on a globe and going there for a week or so. |

I guess it all really depends on where in Europe you decide to go. |

I say go for it.
Who care's if you're alone... this way you get to do exactly what you want to do, when you want to do it. Plus it's relaxing to completely escape and not have any connection to home. Get out of the country while you're at it. It's shocking to find out how few Americans get out of the US – and sorry, but Toronto doesn't make you a jetsetter.

I feel like I need to get away from the Amercan culture for an extended period of time. I'm tired of the same conversations every day... "sooo.... what are you doing this weekend?" "sooo.... how was work?"
I want to have to worry about how I am going to communicate with the person in front of me for once. Anyone know what I mean? Different cultures have so much to offer and I am afraid that tomorrow I am going to wake up and be married with kids and I will have lost out on my chance to experience that. |

Do it. I did my ED alone and would do it again alone if necessary.

I don't like to go on vacation alone unless I am primarily going to be taking photographs. I do much better at that when the wife and kid aren't saying, "Let's go!" It takes time to make a good photograph.
It's been too long since I have gone alone. But a week from tomorrow I will be going on a 500 mile drive alone to visit family. I plan to take a lot of photos along the way if time isn't short. Alone has it's advantages. You don't have to be entertaining anybody else by doing something you don't really want to do. |
