soooo this kinda sucks i came to realized 2 weeks before my e92 comes in i just cant afford it now...things came up not bad things kinda a good thing i plan on asking my girl friend to marry me!! but when i saw the price tag on those rings my eyes just went i know which one she wants and its around 12kish....and before i ordered my 335 i had everything working out financially and didnt plan on buying a ring and i was just barely making out to make the payments on the 335....so i guess the story is im 335less and im stuck with my e90 im kinda bumed out about this but happy at the same time....

Oh a word of advice...if you are shopping for jewelry, save yourself money and do not buy from a chain store you will get an inferior product with a premium price-tag. |

it actually is selfish, but she's being greedy asking for such a pricy ring maybe you can compromise and get her a 2-3k ring (small I know, but if she really loves you it shouldn't matter) and still get your car |

Imagine how much the wedding ring and wedding itself will cost with her taste.
(Congratulations on getting engaged btw but I really think that $12,000 is a bit pricey)

it probably started as a marketing scheme from DeBeers or something but I belive it's 2-3x your Gross Net monthly salary is what you should pay for your ring.
I'm sure his GF didn't say i want a 12k ring...but probably had a certain style and size in mind. I'm as cynical as the next guy but you are dreaming if you think you can drive a 50k+ car and buy your GF a 2-3k ring LOL. |

I made sacrifices a bunch of times and it paid off. - 2001 330ci to Mazda Protege to buy a house ($650 a month to $200 a month) - Got used to the house payment, made more money, and sold the Mazda and bought a 2003.5 M3 - We wanted to start a family, so I sold the M3 to get a more practical car with 4 doors and save for the baby, so I bought a Jetta. (what a difference) - 2 months after my daughter was born and after purchasing all of the furniture and gadgets, I am now driving the 335. It's really hard to downgrade, but it's worth it in the end.

She bugs you you buy her clothes and dinners? Now wants a $12k ring? I dunno, you obviously love her to even be thinking of this, but it sounds pretty materialistic of a gf to be wanting you to buy her clothes... maybe a nice dinner occasionally, but clothes and a $12k ring?
Get the car, IMO |

You can find extensive information on the web as far as diamonds go. bluenile.com will give you some pricing ideas. I found I could not get those prices in-person, however, the malls were around 25+% higher. Tiffany's was about 100% higher *lol* I could get around 5-7% higher at jewelers. The name of the game is a GIA cert. Don't let anybody talk you into EGL, IGI, blah blah blah. GIA is the world standard.... |

If you can barely afford a 335, you are in no condition to be buying a 12-13k ring, and she should be smart enough to know that. Asking you to do it anyways is selfish, and not too bring.
maybe a 5k ring, and put off the 335 for a few months?
