I'm a dumbass.....

Had a temporary lapse of judgement and backed into a underground parking lot support pole. Obviously the rear bumper needs a repair and respray but what about the CF diffuser? Is it possible to apply some clear coat resin and fix the damage? Anyone fix their CF parts with any success?

Omg... one of those days for me too! I literally felt like kicking myself after...

Today I drove over one of those stupid parking curbs at a subway.

Usually I'm really cautious at every place I pull into, but today was just one of those days. Both my driver and passenger side cf splitters are now scratched up and bumper has somewhat a couple scuffs down the center.

Adding some clear coat resin to the cf sounds like a possible solution but wouldn't the cf weave still be torn up in areas? You may just need to order a new diffuser.

I'll be ordering new splitters soon.

Lol guys that's harsh....sorry to hear.

CF is very meticulous in that if damaged anywhere it will never be the same. I doubt adding resign will cover up any changes in the weave that were caused by movement.

sorry to hear man, but don't beat yourself up over it. shit happens! life goes on!

i clipped a curb with my front bumper lip in my last E90 while carelessly pulling into a parking spot. was pretty upset, but hey - it's just a car! it can be repaired.

best of luck!

Well said...

It does suck if it happens but what are you going to do? Are you going to go in the corner and cry like a baby or eat a box of chocolate

OP I think there are some places that specialized in fixing CF but I would assume its very expensive.

Does anyone know what it would cost to repair and repaint JUST the rear bumper?

Sorry to hear! =(

Is it cracked? If not, it's likely around $400..to buff out, and they're going to have to repaint the whole bumper.

If it's just scratched, you can try using rubbing compound on the area and then using a good wax on top of it. However, this works best on metal surfaces and hides superficial scratches quite well. So, not sure if it'll work for the bumper...

And, is it just me, or do we all like to back in when we park? haha

Trust me that ain't buffing out. Just had 427 Collision quote me 650 for repair and respray if I removed and installed the bumper myself. I smeared that Mtech detail near the edge of the diffuser pretty badly so it will need a body filler master to repair it 100%.

the good thing is that most of the damage is to the painted bumper section. CF seems to be unrepairable but should be minimal once you get your bumper painted. time to get clear bra. I bumped into several walls before when I get tired after long hours of work and the bra took all the damage.
