Yup, I am ashamed to say that I got into an argument over this on Youtube I know I should not have gotten into it since all posts were by Mustang fanboys bashing the ZL1 but I could not resist. All I said was that the ZL1 has one of the most advanced suspensions out there and has proven to be the clear winner in a circuit setup, there are a few vids out there showing this. I was attacked like you would not believe. Anyhow, both these cars are absolute beasts but just not my style.

Interesting that the ZL1 owned it on the twisties.... The ZL1 beat the BOSS by a respectable but not cavernous margin, and the BOSS is about on par with the previous Shelby... And this Shelby is miles ahead of the old one.
Well done for a 4100 lb car though. Imagine if they could keep the tech and lose a bunch of that fat.... Last edited by ragingclue; 06-12-2012 at 10:55 AM.. |

I admire what both brands have done for their pony cars, and it just makes me sadder that Dodge hasn't done anything similar for their Challenger SRT8.
It becomes awkward to sell an SRT8 Challenger when people are comparing to the GT500. "Well... its not a fair comparison, if you've focused solely on performance, the Mustang will win in pretty much every category. BUT CHECK THIS ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM OUT BRUH" |

Yeah but you have to take into account that (IMHO) the Challenger SRT-8 is the only one out of the three that is really a muscle car. The spirit of the Camaro and Mustang are as pony cars, while the Challenger still fits the muscle car spirit very well. A Challenger is not, and does not try to be, a pony car. I like it for that reason.
Don't forget the Challenger still does very well at the strip. |

The gt500's are already running 9's. 9's. With less than $4k in upgrades.

Funny how the Camaro camp seems to embrace that thing as a track car.... It's a hero lap monster, that's for sure, but I wouldn't touch that thing with a 10 foot pole as a track car. And it's shit at the strip. Absolute shit compared to where it should be. Last edited by ragingclue; 06-12-2012 at 01:25 PM.. |

Hopefully the redesigned 2015 Mustang's suspension takes care of the current handling issues.

All that's left is for Corvette to kick leaf springs to the curb.

That being said, I predicted in another thread that the GT would be faster in the straight line and the ZL1 would handle better. Both great cars!

I wonder when we'll see actual substance in the comparisons on a track though. Figure 8, slalom, and skidpad do tell us a lot, but I have a hard time thinking the ZL1 would mop the floor with the GT500 (as the article implies) in a situation where you're at a track with some turns in it. Somewhat good article but seems like they threw in plenty of troll bait to stir the pot. |

Even if the ZL1 handles better, I still hate the design. Just sitting in one of those pillboxes for a few seconds was enough to turn me off. I'd get better sightlines out of a Panzer tank. The improved gear shifts and telescoping steering wheel are two things I really wish they had in the GT500, though.

GT500 is the clear winner here because let's face it, no body buys either of these cars based on it's track capabilities. If i want a track car, i start with something that was supposed to be a track car from the first place not something that weighs 4100lbs no matter how good it is.
At the end i would get a C6 over any of these cars. The ONLY good thing about them is the build/maintain cost. Don't get me wrong, Z06 Z07 is one of the best handling cars, but you can't deny the fact that it can be better by ditching the leaf springs. |

What happens if the 2015 Mustang comes out, and it's got all the bells and whistles, uses high quality materials for the interior, and stickers at a price where we can no longer say, "yeah but it's a helluva bargain!"? Same with the Vette; it's always been a gigantic bargain. Start including a lux interior and the highest quality materials/components/design, and the price starts to escalate. Seems counter-intuitive to me. If I buy a car because it's a bargain, I don't expect the most refined experience or lux materials in the cabin, etc.... It's common sense. |
