Speeding ticket...

I need help with this speeding ticket I got over the memorial day weekend.
We were heading to SF and about 1/3 of the way there we decided to take a more scenic route. So I took one of the highways to get to the 1 and was ticketed there.

I am not trying to get out of it. I was going faster than the speed limit... Officer had a trap set... I was pretty much only car on that road at the time. No where to hide... I feel unlucky but no excuses... I was speeding.

This is my first speeding ticket. I feel lucky in this regard. My last ticket was I think three years ago for failing to make a complete stop at a stop sign. I am unfamiliar with how all this system works.
What I need to know is...

I want to request for traffic school. Do I need to go to the court assigned on the ticket? The court is 2 hours away.

___
Cliff...
Got a ticket far away from home. I want to request traffic school. Do I need to go to the court assigned on the ticket?

Thanks

if this is your first ever speeding ticket, pay a traffic lawyer $70 and he'll make it go away

no need for school or anything else

i'd drive to the address listed on the ticket.

when you get there, light that bitch on fire.

leave a sign that says "don't mess with the Zohan".

they'll know WTF is up after that....

then go back home and follow directions from post #4....

Was the ticket for less than 15 over the posted limit? If so ticket and traffic school cost will be about what an attorney will charge you. You set the value of your time that will be spent in traffic school.
If you decide to just go to traffic school call the court listed on the ticket and explain, they will give you the options and the bail amounts.
Would the ticket have been on either the 41 or 46, always hiding thru there when going from the 5 to the 101, sucks.

It was on CA 46. I was going 70 on 55mph...

If I were to get a traffic lawyer, I would have to go to the court listed on the ticket correct?
My friend told me I could finish traffic school in less than 2 hour online. I thought this would be the best choice...

99% of the time you don't have to go to court at all. This isn't a murder trial, your attorney can show up for you without you being there. I got a ticket back in April for 90 in a 65. The attorney, who specializes in traffic tickets, was only $79 and got the ticket complete dismissed. Zero points, zero additional fines, zero schools. All I had to do was fax a copy of the ticket and pay with my CC and that was it, they handled the rest.

Your experience will be different depending on where you got the ticket though. In FL the tickets are given out based on the county you were pulled over in. In one of the larger counties like Broward or Miami-Dade there are hundreds of these attorney who only deal with traffic tickets and usually have very good results. In the smaller ones like Leon (where Tallahassee is) there are not really any specialized ticket attorneys so the fees are higher and the outcome is usually just court costs or maybe traffic school. In FL the good thing about a judge ordering traffic school over you pleading no-contest and taking a traffic course is the judge order doesn't count against your 5 class lifetime limit on taking traffic school.

You don't have to show up, the attorney does that for you.

If you an afford it easily, get a lawyer. They have the connections to push the verdict in your favor. If its more than speeding ie reckless a lawyer is a must have. Otherwise ask for driving school if your jurisdiction isn't strict.

I got my 4th speeding ticket about a month ago and I have gotten them all off my record but they were all a pain in the ass to deal with (class, probation, lawyer etc..). this time I decided to try something a friend told me about.

Yesterday I called the DA office for the parish (that's what we call it in LA) I got the ticket in and asked if I could speak with the DA about getting a speeding ticket moved to a non-moving violation. I sat on hold for about 10 min and had to go through a few different secretaries and eventually got on the phone with the DA and told him what happened and he asked me a few questions, took about 5 min, and at the end of the conversation he told me he would drop the ticket as long as I mailed a copy of the ticket and a check for the court fees ($80, ticket was $219) to his office before my court date and the ticket would be dropped. Literally that easy, I was amazed. Don't know how many times you can pull that card, but I will be trying it if it happens again.

Im pretty sure thats what the attorneys do, thats why you never have to show up at the "court" date after you hire them.

I looked in to hiring an attorney and it looks like paying the ticket and doing traffic school online will cost about same as hiring an attorney. So, I will pay the ticket and go to traffic school this time... For next time (hopefully never), I will hire an attorney.
Thanks for all the input.

Now I am looking in to getting a radar detector. Didn't feel a need to get one but now... I think I should get one.

I would highly suggest and attorney over trying to take traffic school, because the judge might now accept traffic school. Idk

Yeah I have had a bunch of tickets haha....You will be fine, if you really don't want it on your record go to the court and ask or driving school. You can take driving school up to like 3-4 times.

This isn't even a bad one....My first and very worse ticket was going over Guntersville bridge...Racing a guy going 115 in a 45...I thought for sure they were taking my license away and car...Thankfully when I was 16 they weren't as strict...I had to go to court twice first they dropped my charges from racing to aggravated speeding...Then gave me like this scare tactic thing were they took me and the guy I was racing to stay overnight in Guntersville prison. (You know to show you were you life is heading if you don't straighten out haha.) Anyway I ended up going back to court for the second time and agreed I would do driving school and they dropped all 6 points going against my license.

So yeah don't worry...you will be fine I have a total of 7-8...some spread out across the states though haha! I am starting to wonder if when they are going to suspend my license....that wouldn't be good.

Wut?

Traffic school is one of the options. He would be pleading no contest and as long as he completes traffic school within the specified period he pays a reduced fine and gets reduced/no points. All he does is check that box on the ticket and mail it in to the court.

In my experience, if you can go for a court appearance there is good chance that they will drop 2-points off your ticket and just ask you to pay fine. In my case I had 4-points and hired a lawyer to drop all of 'em in NJ.

Do the math, if getting to SF is a costly affair, then hire a lawyer and pay him $500 to take care of it.

Personally, I don't give a shit about speeding tickets. It is just an annoyance to a good driver who sometime exceeds the limit.

Yep like I said if 15 and under the cost will be about the same, it more how you value your time because end result if Lawyer or Traffic school no ticket on record. A lot of counties in CA do not allow on line school, the attorney or actually in reality a representative of the attorney will file the motion and appear, they often have one person appear for mutiple cases on the courts docket.
CA 41 and 46 are pretty regular speed areas, where they gain and lose elevation thru the foothills to the coast they often sit and wait. If CAHP they use laser, a radar detector wont be very effective in CA as lots of jurisdictions use laser now and an experienced traffic cop will always beat a detector if they want to write tickets that day.
