Racing Brake caliper upgrade?
Anybody used the racingbrake caliper upgrade in concert with their 2-piece rotors?
http://www.racingbrake.com/Two_piece...T_p/2158-k.htm Searched, didn't find anything... |

Never heard of them.
The LAST thing you want to do is go cheap on brakes. If you can't stop, you crash!

These guys have some of the best stuff on the market. Their rotors are pretty pricy. Their caliper for the 335 is fairly new. From what I gather you can purchase just the rotor (which is pretty awesome for track days) or you can just purchase the caliper which fits the stock rotor (I have not personally tried this). Or you can do both.

they do say that those calipers are not for racing....I wouldn't bother. I have their 2-piece rotors at all corners

Were does it say that? If you can track the car with the stock setup then this would be better assuming the quality is there which it appears to be. Racing in terms of competition is different. I don't really consider track days as "racing."

Sorry, my bad! Did not realize this is a new product! What I read was for not for this new aluminum caliper. Pricing is great.

If you can't really find anything about them, do you really want to be a test pilot for brakes? I think with that logic you can answer your own question. I do use their rotors on the rear of my car. They seem to perform well. |

PAD choices
This caliper uses pad type FMSI Shape D1149
It seems the pad shape is same as for the SRT8 Jeep, but is not offered by PFC, nor Hawk at this time. So this is a consideration for trackers, no?

They have their own pads too. I forgot who they sourced it to.

Can someone tell me if this takes more space that the OEM calipers? Using Koseis 17 inch, so already a tight fit for the OEM calipers.

Small but very reputable company. We have used their rotors on a 25 hour car for 2 years and they're perfect. They last forever.
Granted, they have little representation in the BMW community but I would call them and ask for some data. I would want to compare their 4 piston front compared to the 6 piston StopTechs for braking power, heat, and brake pad availability. I would be tempted to go this route if I were thinking about a brake upgrade on my E9X. |

The RB calipers have 38mmx4 pistons... the ST60 has 36x2, 30x4 (6 piston). So the piston area of the RB's is around 95% that of the ST60. The pad comparison: RB Calipers: Pad part number: PDS110 Pad width: 132.08mm Pad height: 55.63mm Pad thickness: 16.61mm ST60: Pad width: 151.9mm Pad height: 74.7mm Pad thickness: 17.7mm Although it appears from the diagram that the ST60 measurements are measuring the dimension of the complete bad including the backing plate and locking ring above the pad, while the RB diagram is just the friction material. So the ST60 numbers might be inflated a tad. The ST60 would use the 355x32mm stoptech rotor, while the RB would use the 345x30mm RB rotor. FWIW I think the RB rotors are superior, just on engineering. I think I'd be leaning pretty strongly towards the RB kit in front, and perhaps a stop-tech kit in the rear, if any upgrade in the rear. Anybody know the stock front calipers piston dimension? |

This is an interesting option, specially if you already have the RB rotors. My only concern is the pad shape which limits the track pad material to RB track pads only. Pad shape not (yet) available from Hawk, PFC etc. See post 9.

For the cost difference between the stoptechs and the RB solution, you can just buy 6-7 sets of pads and keep them on-hand.
