Germany's midfield fell apart... that's what happened.
Utter and complete shame... I don't recall the name of the announcer but he stated before the game that it would be a tragedy to international soccer if germany lost to italy... enough said. I have nothing against italy personally, they are an A grade team, but I do not like their soccer style, its dirty and ugly soccer, but they won that game. They played better, they controlled the ball far more, passes were solid and they dominated midfield where germany is world class. I 100% attribute the loss to the failure in coaching on the german side. The German coach failed to play man and just played zone. Italy is much more versatile in midfield and that is why they never had issued pushing the ball forward, making full and complete passes and keeping the ball in control at all times. Ozil, Schweinsteiger, who I believe are amazing midfielders did not participate in the game... after the first 5 minutes, it's as if they sat down and just waited out the game. Gomez got removed in light of Klose... I would have played 2 front 4 mid 4 read and not 1 - 5 - 4. Germany is strong and productive, Italian defense never had a hard time with the german offense. |

Was a sad sad day yesterday to see such a great powerhouse fall so easily to a team who hasn't done
much this year. Last 5 games, 4 of them ties and always with full defense out back....poor soccer style. I hope Spain gives it to them something fierce.... |
