leatherette tear

Hi guys, I just found a tear on my 2007 328i leatherette. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a place to get this fixed and cost of this type of repair?

i think leatherette is covered under warranty. Check with ur SA, I know I had it covered under CPO previously.

I called BMW Mississauga and the SA quoted me $1000 to replace it. He suggested me to go to Barry's Vehicle Upholstery and told me they would just cut it out and stitch it up making it looking brand new.

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and see what they can do.

$1000 !?!? are you serious? I remember the days when $1300 would get you good quality full front and back upholstery, now it fixes a crack...im deff gonna pass on this.

My car had the same issue, but was under warranty still and BMW fixed it. I would suggest a shoe repair shop. I know it sounds strange, but i have fixed my old car seat by one of them for $20.

I was working on my car and put a screwdriver in my back pocket. When I jumped in the car, it ripped the bottom seat. Dealer prices were crazy high, I found a new sport seat bottom on ebay for $300. Problem solved.
I would look around before buying new, and as mentioned above, a good upholsterer or shoe repair company should be able to help.

can not be repaired. only repair is another piece on top of it or new seat.
bad news but it is what it is.
i would not pay 1000 to the dealership but look for used or other suggestions from the members.

The $1000 and install is about right for a dealer job to replace the leatherette cover... I'm on my 2nd seat bottom cover... they tear so easily, I'm going with leather on my next car. The first one lasted 80k, second one, only 50k.

If your rip is not too bad, Parkview could get someone to patch it up, which will cost less, so I'm sure other dealers can see if they can get it patched up instead of a full replacement.

Supposedly you should use the leatherette cleaner/spray to "rejuvanate" the cover, to make sure they are pliable and "moist"

I'm definitely not spending $1000 to repair that. I'm hoping it won't be more than a couple of hundred at Barry's. I'll look around for a shoe repair company but I really don't know of any. Never been to one since I buy new shoes when my old ones a worned out.

SGxi - What do you suggest for a leatherette cleaner and protectant?

Supposedly the one being sold by BMW should do the trick, although I would imagine any of the ones available at Canadian Tire may work.

Barry quoted me $300 for similar issue, I would just contact him directly and see what he will charge, normally he will have to replace the entire part and restitch the seat.

Back in the day, the shop that fixed my seat was by danforth and pape.

Hi Guys.
I'm sorry. I'm not trying to hijack the thread but I do have the same problem.
I have a crack/tear on my driver seat and my car is still under warranty until next month.

For people that got the seat fixed by the dealer, where do you see that the seat wear and tear is covered by the warranty?
I just want to make sure that if my SA gave me a hard time, I'll just show it to her where it's stated that it's covered by the warranty.

Thanks guys.

I have CPO and my seat is doing the same. However this is what it says in the CPO under what is NOT covered:
Body and Interior
Paint; glass; headlamps; bulbs (except instrumentation); mirrors; lenses; body and chassis; body seals and gaskets; interior and exterior trim, moldings, and fasteners; upholstery, headliner, carpeting, floor and trunk mats; convertible top (all components except electronics); air or water leaks; wind or body noises; wheels; damage due to rust, corrosion, or contamination, except as covered by the BMW New Vehicle Rust and Corrosion Perforation Warranty.

I'm assuming leatherette falls under the upholstery part so it wouldn't be covered?

When I last had my car waxed at Pacific Mall, I saw a sign saying they repair leather (maybe leatherette too?). I suppose you can give them a call. Posh Auto Shine, in Markham.

Hey guys,
sorry to highjack but...
I have - in good condition - a complete set of black leatherette heated, sports seats for sale. I swapped them about a month ago for red coral so anyone interested let me know...
add will go up shortly in the clasified section :-)!
