Curious about tune stacking?
When people stack a JB4 and Cobb for meth control, how exactly is it working? How do you decide which tune is dominate, and how do you make them work together? I'm not exactly grasping the idea on how it works. Also I have a PROcede v5 sitting on my shelf, would stacking it with my Cobb be a more safe way to run my meth kit? My car is currently at a shop as we speak having my HFS-4 unit installed then they are pro-tuning it. Would adding the PROcede later on be a safer fail safe in the long run or am I fine the way I am now. Also even if I am fine the way I am Id still like someone to explain tune stacking. Thanks in advance.

If your car gets pro tuned with the meth and Cobb, there shouldn't be much more power to gain from stacking. If there is more power available, they tuned it too conservatively. Just keep the one tune and eliminate the stacking as a potential problem down the road. It'll save you countless hours of tinkering trying to get the second one dialed in. Considering it shouldn't gain much once your car is already dialed in, it will not be time well spent.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm going to check the other forum for some more knowlege on it any way just for the sake of learning. And the last shop destroyed the pump wire and fried the board because put the board in the ecu compartment! So I had to have new wires and a new board sent out. Now the kit is up and running properly and I'm awaiting the tune. I'll keep ya posted.

Did you order your Aquamist kit from Jeff @ Howerton engineering?
I just switched from the JB4 to Cobb and when I switched I installed the HSF4... Jeff made a little harness that cuts boost down to 8psi when failsafe kicks in... Works like a charm!

Yup that's where I got my kit from. I wonder if I have that too? Is it a special order? I know it has a fail safe that opens the wastegate but just dropping the psi defiantly sounds more driveable if meth were to not flow.

Stacking can be very powerful combo. Using a failsafe with meth is much different then altering tuning based on flow... the latter is much better and potentially safer. Do you know the failsafe method in your setup?
A pro-tune will yield good power, but the limitation is that you are stuck with a drastically peaked torque curve in the mid-range... this is fine but not too useful, except for a brief kick in the pants during acceleration at ths rpm range. Tuners are having issues flatening the boost curve... Basically they cannot increase the top end without increasing mid-range also. Fyi: you would not want to run Procede on top of a pro tune. Custom or conservative map would be best. Unless Vishue starts offering pass through with meth integration. I may post a diy or fyi on ATR and Procede stacked soon. |

Basically you add boost when meth flowing with jb4 , there is a setting for it. Thats what i run sometimes.

Yeah I was just reading about how its done on the other forums it makes sense. I was thinking for a fail safe feature it would be nice but I'm sure mine will work just fine. Was just curious about it since I couldn't find any good information on it on this forum.
