Updating JB4 firmware

I recently purchased the JB4 PNP from my cousin recently. As I received it, he told me I should update because he thinks it's not updated to the latest firmware since he bought it from someone else. As I was trying to update it, I accidentally clicked on restore to default on accident. I don't know if I was suppose to do that or not. Then I tried uploading the 7/22 firmware but and it said loading HEX and an error popped up saying if I wanted to continue or not and I clicked continue. As it was loading, it took forever thinking it shouldn't take this long so I stopped it. I tried again and just said loading HEX again for about 30 min. then stopped it. My question is, is it suppose to take that long to upload? Also is it suppose to be installed in the car while I update it because it's not installed in the car yet. I'm having trouble here and hope you guys can help me out.

How do u expect to update something that isn't installed and has no power. Even in the directions to update it states car into accessory II MODE. The jb4 can't magically power itself.

USB provides a 5V @100-900mA power lead fyi so it would be possible if it was worth the effort, but not many people want to update off the car.

Had a feeling a smart*** was going to reply. It's my first time having the JB4 or even modding my bimmer you idiot and my cousin didn't even know it needed to be installed in order for it to be updated. How the f*k am I suppose to know in the directions even if I don't have the directions that "II Mode" or whatever means to put it in. I even asked Terry this question but he wouldn't even answer it because it's "used" if " Do I need the JB4 installed in order to update it?" I have no idea why he couldn't answer a simple question. I'm a noob obviously so you don't need to go around acting like a smart*** I was just asking for help that's all.

That's a troll? op calls me an idiot cause the dumb shit thinks a USB to serial port will power anything.

Also Tell me please educate me on how Ac and Dc works. Apparently you know something the world doesn't.

Your a newb? To what life?
Common sense is nonexistent on this board and would solve a million posts like this.
Sorry that my 4 year old nephew understands that.

You kids are funny.
