325i 3.0 e93 engine sound

Hi All,

had my e93 325i for about 2 months now, nice car.

went for the 325i and i found the 320i to be gutless.

i like how it goes, but only thing i dont like is the lack of engine noise

dont want to add a exhaust to make it loud.

but was thinking about replacing the air filter with a aftermarket one.

have read that these can make the engine sound more aggressive.

have been reading up am a bit confused, my car has a 3.0 litre engine does it have a cone type filter or a flat type one?

has anyone else changed the filter on their 3.0 version of the 325i does it make the engine sound better

3Litre 325i requires a cylinder type K&N filter I believe the code is E-2022

N53 330i has a cylinder cone air filter so presume yours would be similar.

I would like to know about how this filter makes the engine sound.. Are there any downsides to the upgrade from OEM?

Garage List
Having just fitted a K&N to this same engine I can tell you that it makes no difference whatsoever to engine sound - except maybe a tiny bit quieter (which is not what you're looking for!).

If you really want to hear a nice noise from your engine then a Performance Exhaust is the way to go. Listen to the vid clips in this thread:

Hi,

hmm okay, might have to try for £40 odd.

the exhaust option is a bit too much to spend for some noise.

got the filter today £39.97 delivered.

put it in, but not gone for a drive yet, on standstill when you give it some beans you could hear more of a whoose noise.

will see if any louder when i drive to work tomorrow.

on the 1st day there was less noise, driving around for a few days it has got louder.

not odd loud, but a more meaty sound.

also not sure if it is me or the filter, but the throttle response seems to be better, the car wants to go more.

the old filter was a BMW one, and was not dirty at all.
