Anyone had this key symbol on the dash?

I get this symbol up on the dash now and again - but it doesnt seem to cause any problems and the car always starts ok. First noticed it months ago.

Done a search and it said it could be the wrong remote or a problem with the remote etc..... But I've never had any problems - other than this light appearing for about 5 secs when I start the car once in a while.

Anyone ever had this?

The only time I've ever seen that symbol is when I put the wrong key in the ignition .

Or if you put the FOB near the ignition and quickly remove it, it triggers that indicator.

I get that from time to time, along with a message on the idrive screen about not removing the key because the car might not be able to restart or something...

I'm sure its caused when I jam the key in and press the start button too quickly

I've also had this flash up a few times but it's not caused any problems... I was also wondering what this meant ! It's still started ok though so I wouldn't worry

I've had it a few times as well, but probably only a proximity thing to the slot, once the key is in the car starts OK

Yep I've seen it a few times if I am too eager slotting in or removing the key. I've even seen it once when I dropped my missus off and inadvertently forgot the car keys in her bag (thanks comfort access!). The surprising thing was that I was able to drive a surprising distance away before the car noticed. I assume the car would have stopped at some point too??

Only when you turned it off. Had this on a Nissan Pathfinder, dropped the missus off at the shops and drove 10 miles home, wondered what the beeping was when she got out, lol. Fortunately realised when I got to the gate and turned around.. Turned off when I was waiting for her to bring the keys back and couldn't restart so I was lucky...

only shows up when my battery on the fob is weak. Once replaced it was gone.

Its either a weak battery.. or more likely just an 'unclean' connection.. ie when I've got my keys in my jeans pocket sometimes i see that, i just take them out, the car recognises them and the symbol disappears, put back in pocket... all fixed.

If you have comfort access it means the car cannot read the key for some reason or its outside the vehicle.

If you have a low key battery, the symbol is different and shows a little battery symbol too. (CA keys have batteries that need changing, normal keys charge when in the key-socket)

I have CA and often put my keys in the door pocket, then if I open the door with the engine running it does it as it knows the keys are outside the car.

Or if I go round to the boot with the keys in my pocket it does it.

Don't know about none-CA cars though.

I have the same issue with my CA, except mine will not start the car at all. The doors will open without any problem, but for what ever reason will not start the car. Even if I put the key in the slot, same problem. I have tried a new battery.
BMW have said that the key is faulty and its £200 for a replacement.
I find it strange that it will unlock the doors okay, but not start. Just what I needed when I was 200 miles away from home. Had to get someone to drive the spare (none CA) key to me.
