E91 CCC Nav iDrive Sluggish
Guys,
The iDrive in my car is running really slow when attempting to use the Nav. If you click on the "city" field, it takes about 15 - 20 seconds to bring up the entry page. I recently got a new map disc (2012 maps from ebay), but am not sure if this is what is causing it. When I first put in the new map disc and started the system I got a message saying "updating" and to shut down and restart the car after 5 mins. I did that, and all seems to work fine, just the nav is painfully slow. I know CCC is sluggish anyway, but this seems bad to the point you end up trying to click it again as you think maybe you didnt click controller down to select "City" etc. I drove our e60 yesterday, and it runs much quicker in there - within a second or too of clicking (that has the original BMW nav disc in it). Is the CCC basically the same in the E60 and the E90? Any advice on what to try?

Mine is about that speed too, and mine has a copied disc. To be fair, I never tried it with the original disc - I wonder if the originals are somehow different?
I don't use the Nav often enough for it to be a big problem though - once it's woken up and I've started entering an address it works fine.

I've heard somewhere that copy discs are slow to be read in the CCC. Would the disc from the E60 work in the 91?

Sometimes mine is that slow too or just get stuck completely. Was quite slow before with original disc, but recently used a copy disc and happened a few occasion but normally ok and quite quickly. The slowest is when I start the car in the morning, seems to take the longest to boot but not during short stops like to the petrol station.

Cheers all. The disc in it when I got the car was not original, but will try it with the genuine disc from my E60 and see if that improves it.
If it does, is the only real solution to splash out on a genuine 2012 BMW disc? (though they will not have speed cameras I guess) - or just live with it.

Lol - Steve, I will be having word with Kav, don't worry!
I just need to try the Oem disc and see if that helps. If it does, I might return the one I bought and buy from the link posted above.

So i tried the original disc from the E60, and it works perfectly - the system responds within a second or so. I guess my issue is with the disc I bought from ebay. Will try to send it back and try one of the links posted above etc.

Sometimes slow on mine with copied disc, but happens occasionally with original anyway. Majority of the time oem or copied, fairly quick.
Slowest on start up besides no major issue. |

I had the 2012 maps on a DVD-R and this worked perfectly for a few weeks until it slowed down to a complete crawl and became unusable. I then copied it on to a DVD+R and this solved the sluggish performance but sometimes now the disk is not recognised and I have to eject and re insert the DVD to get it working.
Anyone know what the best brand of media to use is and what type? |

It is quite clear that the BMW DVD drive doesn't like copied media - mine was slow/unresponsive and you could hear the laser almost constantly indexing - not good for the life of the sometimes fragile drive.
I'm afraid it is OEM discs for me |
