The 335xi is faster to 60 than the 335i, but slower at higher speeds.
the 335i should handle better, being rwd and lighter. The main advantage of awd is being able to drive well in rain, snow and ice. If it's awd you want, Audi is better. |

I believe according to the brochure, they have the xi at .1 faster to 60. This is because with AWD, you can rev up to 5000rpms or so and drop the clutch, giving you an optimum launch on street tires. However, I have seen magazines and people here time their 335i 0-60 at 4.8s, and have not seen an xi post anything faster than that (yet). Either way, after 60, the AWD version (which is heavier and also has more hp lost throught the drivetrain) will be slower.

I would take a xDrive equiped vehicle over a similar Quattro equiped vehicle any day of the week. Thank you very much.

If they call themselves car enthusiasts but don't understand AWD-launching and drivetrain loss, then they are not worth talking to.

When I test drove a couple steptronic 335i's, one with the sport pkg and one without, I noticed that both of them engaged the traction control (not right off the line, but while accelerating) when I floored the accelerator . At first I didn't realize what was happening, just noticing that they shifted before reaching redline. Then I realized what it was. So that means that both of them were traction-limited in their acceleration. Not very surprising. At that time, I did not know how to entirely disengage traction control.
On my 335xi, the traction control does not have to engage, because it can transfer some of the power to the front wheels. So I think the xi can very well accelerate faster, at least to 60, than the i.
