Why do Americans ruin awesome British shows?

Just like "Top Gear," the US version of "Inbetweeners" sucks.

If you guys have never watched this show before. Watch the British version, its very funny. US version, not so much. They copy most of the jokes and scenes from the British version, but do not play it out as well.

It's not that Americans ruin British shows. Take The Office for example, the American version is much better.

It's just that certain programs shouldn't be franchised because no one can live up to the original. Top Gear, perfect example.

Just because they made an American version doesn't mean you actually have to watch it.

Yeah, I guess you are right. The American Version of the office is quite the feat.

I watched one episode. I do not plan on watching it again. Just like the US top gear. Only watched one episode.

While I agree that the british Top gear A LOT better, I do like watching the US one. It's still a decent show based on cars and is entertaining to me.

Plus, the second episode was filmed down here in south LA, so I really wanted to watch that one since it was filmed 10 min from where I live.

They may share the same name but I see them as 2 different shows.. the Brit version is like fine wine... the US version is like a 40oz

Some of the US versions are much better than the British versions, especially The Office, as mentioned.

As Chris Harris said, trying to copy Top Gear is impossible and will just make the writers/presenters look like tools. [Chris] decided to go in a slightly different direction and cater to a different audience and that's why he's been successful.

Imitating something like Top Gear will never work. No matter what you do, you'll be compared to the original show and sure as hell won't live up to it.

I think this applies to any 'copies' of shows.

As for the office, the original creators and writers (Ricky Gervais and another guy) did the UK version first, then came over to the US and did this version. That's why it's been so good. I'm sure if a parallel show was created with the aim of imitating the UK version, it would have been crap. Originality is key.

Meh, I'm not a fan of US top gear but after seeing this interview I eased up on it.

The Office is much better than UK though so least that's a win.

Because British humor is way more advanced than American humor
That's why
British humor usually doesn't consist of cursing
Most of the best American comedians use nothing but expletives

BBC's Sherlock was pretty good; the US version called "Elementary" casts Lucy Liu as John Watson and takes place in NYC instead of London.

Can't wait to see how much they ruin this remake

Actually it's not a rip off from American productions. Just like Top Gear, the American version is still being produced by the BBC, it's called franchising.
It's not like Americans came along and just copied the show, usually british productions try to sell it as a franchise to other countries.

Monty Python z(perhaps the funniest group of people ever to have met)
Rowan Atkinson (huge car guy too)
Faulty Towers (Manuel!!)
and if you can find the, the old series "not the 9 o'clock news", one of my favourites.

British humour is not in your face humour like the american type
you hear something and it takes you a while to understand it
a lot of play on words, double meanings etc
where american humour is very obvious and predictable
it's funny sometimes, don't get me wrong
eddie murphy standup, richard pryor, chris rock, seinfeld, chevy chase, SNL etc
but i always feel american humour is written quickly, where as the british humour takes a lot of thinking to come up with their jokes
