Can someone school me on this porsche.
So I was browsing craigslist today and came upon this Porsche 993 for $18000. This is the description the owner posted on craigslist "993 Porsche 911 black w/black interior 130k
manual, A/C, sunroof, stainless steel brake lines, brembo rotors etc. no issues, runs and drive great needing a four door car" I don't know anything about porsches but I need an inexpensive fun 5spd car and this car looks bad ass.. What do you car enthusiasts think about this deal?? if you would call it a deal..

993 and inexpensive don't really go in the same sentence.
That being said, a good 993 is a car that can't be "too" expensive IMO. My personal dream car is a 993 Turbo S but a 993 Turbo will do. |

At least it's not a piece of shit 996. Air cooled Porsches all day for me. And if you can turn a wrench yourself then repair costs shouldn't be too bad. The 993 is a fantastic drive and if it's not been beaten to hell then you'll love it.

Def does not sound legit. People need to take craiglist ads with a grain of salt. LOL
NA 996 911s are typically the cheapest more modern 911s out there. Boxster headlights, first generation of water-coooled engines, NA versions were known to have rear mail seal issues that potentially grenaded the engine etc. They are probably one of the "least" desirable among enthusiasts. That said, 993s have the opposite in terms of enthusiast base. They are one of the most "cherished" because it is the most modern / last generation 911 with an air-cooled engine. You can typically get an 80s 911 Carrera 3.2L in the 13-18k price range with that mileage - but they don't have many modern features... like power steering. The newer 993 with that mileage and in THAT good of shape.. ugh either it's a scam or the guy is an idiot.

993's being the last of the air cooled 911 models usually hold their value very well, so that price does seem off. I would love to have a 993 Carrera 4S.

The third brake light indicates that's a 1995, which suffered from more oil return line fouling than other 993's and I think they had some cylinder liner issues too. Maintenance will not be fun, but 993's are considered by many (including me) to be the most entertaining 911.

For 18k it's probably a Fiero with a body kit.

The 993 is the best that Porsche made, IMO. A 993 Turbo S has been my dream car since before I could drive. There's just something about those air-cooled engines that I love.

Later model 993's had a common issue of oil return lines failing which can cause major issues. They do require a bit of maintenance, 2 plugs per cylinder, gaskets leaks if not driven often etc. (most oil cooled Porsche issues). The plugs are hard to reach without getting the car off the ground as well if you think DIY. That said large cult following for those cars, had a 94 C2 myself. Those look like 996 twist wheels though on it so not really certain what the state of the vehicle is
