Acceleration: Something I noticed
Not an issue just an observation.
When driving a BMW or a Mercedes, Accelerating at highway speeds seems like accelerating from a standstill. In my Volvo, accelerating from highway speeds were great when the tranny kicked down but the next upshift it seems the power had to build back up in order to keep accelerating at that "velocity". More so like the power wasn't there anymore, felt kind of anemic. All other cars that i've driven on the highway have this same trait. Why do Mercedes and BMW not have that trait? It almost seems like it has endless power even after the upshift, like the car is supposed to be going even faster than your desired speed.

Ahmm, either you are driving in granny mode or comparing to econo cars...
I am sorry, but while I love my BMW and think it one of the most enjoyable daily drivers I have owned, I can think of and have driven many cars that does not require any power build up accelerating and shifting on the high way, and certainly do not have that problem with my 06 Volvo S60R... Maybe because any car I buy, be it sedan/coupe/convertible/SUV I only buy it for their performance, so I haven't driven many other cars that exhibit this problem. I mean yah, I would agree the Pontiac Grand Prix the BMW dealer gave me as a loaner last week had that problem, but what did you expect... |

not to rain on your parades, but one thing i noticed about the 335 accelerating from 60-100 is it's much slower than my G35. I was kind of surprised actually.

Yup, you're right....hmm nope...I drove my roommate's 06 G35 coupe and realized that your comment was totally bullshit...So go sell yours, get G37 and come back here to ignite the fire.

not sure about all the 335 fuss...the fastest and the best. So far, no one can come close to it 0-60 (S, RS, G, IS...)
Why did they post in the latest Roundel the 0-60 time of 5.6 sec (The Montego e90 article on the track)? Supposedly, the Manual does it 2/10 faster, but again, all these claims here that the Step is faster... |

Hey this was a question from a 328 owner. You 335 guys have plenty of other posts to argue with the G35 guys. go hang out somewhere else.
Frankly I am disappointed with this transmission. I went for the auto because of left knee poblems (it helped ) In standard mode the car is sluggish and slow to shift under a load. They should have used the 272 hp version of the engine or at least offered a 335 version of the E91. It does seem a bit slow to downshift in the higher gears which adds to the sluggish feeling on accelleration. So I drive in DS mode or manually shift almost all the time. The exception being open road conditions. On the other hand, one problem I have with the DS mode is that it starts off in 1st in all conditions. If you are headed slightly down hill from a stop, the car feels like it is not in gear unless you step on it hard (pretty jerky). Under those conditions the normal D mode works much better. It starts in 2nd and with the light load of a down hill start, the car is responsive. if they come out with a 335 version (2009?) I am going to swap my car for a new one. |

haha you guys are polite that's for sure!
anyway, i think the reason for that is because G35's have a less flat torque curve. so you feel a kick in acceleration as you push. in the bmw the acceleration if fixed (not velocity, acceleration rate). i dont know, i guess i need to drive it some more. in any case numbers on magazines do show that 335's do 30-70 in 6.5 seconds, while the G does it in 6.0 seconds. so i do not think i deserve all the comments you guys threw there peace! |
