Aussie urban fuel consumption
Hey all,
I am a newbie considering a 328i and can finally start my own thread! I have to say that the f30post forums have been an excellent resource for me to research owner experiences of the f30 series cars. The one thing i want to know is what the real world fuel consumption is like. I know there are a heap of threads on the topic, but the one consistent issue i find is that the respondents are always in the US or UK and oftentimes in rural areas / have lots of highway driving. Since i live in sydney, i would like to know real fuel consumption for our crappy congested road system where we don't have as many proper freeways as the US and UK. Sydney also has a considerably hillier terrain compared to many cities in the US and UK (particularly the east and northern suburbs), so i don't find stories from arizona, california, germany or new zealand particularly relevant. Our fuel is also different and i only use 98 octane. So i would be interested in hearing particularly from the sydney 328i owners, but any aussie urban dwellers. Would be interested in your average, driving conditions, fuel type and engine type. For me, i know that whilst the 328i is a sports car, i only feel like chewing through fuel on the weekends, not the daily urban commute... Hence my question. Feedback? |

I drive daily on one of biggest parking lots in Melbourne (westgate fwy) mostly in comfort mode and get between 5.5 - 6 /100 kms. But I have the 320d :-)
The best I got was 4.8 on a 1000 kms all freeway drive in Eco pro. |

I used to have a civic sport which I used to get 10L/100kms from so you can tell how
I drive. With the 328i I get 9.1L/100km so don't even bother worrying about consumption on this car. I know I was a bit suss because on the 325 I get 13.7 |

And if you like your weekend driving to be on the sporty side, option the Adaptive M suspension, you won't regret it. |

I've got a 328i, I drive from the inner city, to the suburbs in Melbourne every day and get 10.3 l / 100kms, and I don't generally push it. Mostly in Comfort mode. Average speed is around 34km/h. Not as good a fuel economy as expected to be honest.

In my mind that's very good considering the performance potential of the car. In the VW watercooled forums, Golf R's are getting 13-14l/100km. I put that down to drag of the AWD (hence why I didn't go for the X1 xDrive28i). |

If you are after a 328i, there is only so much you can do to help the consumption in city/heavy urban driving, where ever we are in the world. It is a fact that it will reflect how dense the traffic is for our particular drive and driving style, however we try and compare.
We have guys her in the UK, driving in London, who can't get into the 20+mpg range, even in diesel 3-series. Dread to think what a petrol 328i would be like. HighlandPete |

currently getting 8.8 l per 100 km on 328i m sport. most driving is open road 100kmh between home and Canberra. Probably 25 pc within City limits but CBR is not a normal city drive - closer to country. most driving in comfort mode so far.
