DIY brake pad change??
Does anyone have an info on DIY brake pad change over for F30? I am putting ceramics on my 2013 Msport as I can't take the brake dust from the factory pads!!! Thanks in advance, Andrew

This is old...but was anything else posted?
I'm trying to see how easy or difficult this is to do. I have some track pads I want to put in for the weekend track day but want to see if its something I can tackle myself instead of bringing to a shop to install/remove after every track event. The local shop I usually head to the track with quotes me $100 (CAD) to change pads...so if I'm installing/removing pads for every track event, thats $200 for every event...not cheap! I used the search function and this was the only post I found that was referencing a DIY Brake pad change! Last edited by E30toF30; 03-22-2016 at 06:38 PM.. |

I would like to know as well. I changed the front pads, rotors and brake wear sensors on my Audi Q7. These are 6 piston brembos. It was very easy so i cant imagine the f30 being anymore difficult.
maybe do a search on youtube for other BMW models/years. I cant imagine it being that different. try f30 335, the new 1/2 series as well. |

The instructions are in Rheingold. I searched a lot prior to doing M performance brakes upgrade, the Hyndai genisis coupe also has the same 4 piston setup in the front and has been around longer so you can find some YouTube videos for that.
Im in the post reply mode so I can't see if you have a 335 or 328. If you have a 335 the front is easier b/c all you have to do is pop out those 2 pins holding the retaining clip in, then you can slide out the pads... Use a different type brake caliper tool that will send the Pistons back (don't forget to open your brake resivor as that will send fluid back through your system). The rear is just like like any other floating caliper on the web.. Look at Bavarian DIY for that. Front is easier b/c you don't have to remove the caliper. |

I watched the tech install my track pads last week and it appeared to be pretty easy to slide/punch out the pins in the brake caliper that hold the retaining clip in.
However, I jacked up the car today to install my stock pads back and for the life of me could not remove the pins. Are there any tips on how best to remove them? Or what tools to use? |

Do you have a nail punch tool? You, something that would recess a nail head in the wood? You need something skinny like that so you can place it on the end (side facing you) so you can hammer to pop them out
Make sure you grease the pins before putting them back in. It's also a little bit of a challenge to get them back in, I used a socket Allen that was on the larger size so I could rest that against the back of the pin head & hammer away & not risk hitting the caliper & chipping the powder coating. You will know when it set, the clip may need to be adjusted so the pin is set & fits in the grooves. Study it closely before removing & you will see what I'm talking about. Hope this helps |

I came across this video of a BMW/MINI brake pad change yesterday, maybe it's of use to you guys? I wouldnt be 100% sure as I'm simply learning all I can right now regarding a brake pad/disc upgrade... Last edited by Bowen151; 03-31-2016 at 03:12 PM..
