Head AMG Chassis Engineer Joins BMW M to Lead Chassis and Powertrain Development
BIMMERPOST NEWS Head AMG Chassis Engineer Joins BMW M to Lead Chassis and Powertrain Development According to an Autocar source, Arnd Meyer, the head engineer responsible for chassis engineering of all recent AMG models, including the SLS AMG Black Series, has left Mercedes and joined BMW M. The source says that Meyer will eventually head BMW M's chassis, powertrain and electronics development, although an AMG spokesperson has suggested that a contractual agreement (presumably, a non-compete clause in his employment contract) may prevent him from doing so for some period of time. By the way, Meyer may have engineered for AMG recently, but in an interview he once gave, he admits that he learned his chops working at BMW's M division and also racing BMWs. So, the man has some blue and white running through his veins from early on. This news comes on the heels of this recent report that BMW M may be looking into offering models that compete with AMG Black Series models, in terms of exclusivity. Could BMW M's pickup of Meyer be related? We shall see... |

How is that good news?
Says he is going to head chassis, portwetrain, and electronics... Merc only use automatics and arent our M's faster around a track due to superior handling over Merc?

I tend to aree with what the AMG spokesman may have suggested (see below) ... the contracts at the German automaker are pretty "Iron Glad" unless he objected to some sections at the outset of his employment at Mercedes.
Anyway, I mentioned before the ///M Division Folks will show him how a good ///M car is build no pun intended

It doesn't seem to me that BMW M will benefit from AMG philosophy/influence...

It doesn't seem to me that BMW M is the reference anymore. They have fell quite low, at least in the eyes of hard-core ///M enthusiasts the hate ///Marketing.

his services are not needed @ bmw. Maybe Hyundai or Lexus can use his talents.

Well with AMG being involved, that basically ensures that there will probably be no more N/A and/or MT ///M cars anymore.
Boost and slushboxes, w00t!

This is a very pot-stirring announcement. Not sure how I feel about it in terms of him being able to fit into the M philosophy. Maybe the ///M philosophy will stay and he'll work around it? What happened to the current/previous man in this position?

Interesting development, but it also makes me wonder what the new guy has that the old one did not.

What a bunch of clueless responses. The recent AMG products have been excellent. Some say the C63 AMG has an even better steering than the M3, and the E63 AMG recently beat out the M5 in C&D comparo. And all that is even before you get to the Black series.
So there was a news that BMW will introduce an AMG Black series competitor, and now they are snatching up the guy who was in charge of chassis engineering of the said Black series. BMW clearly doesn't agree with those of you in the "AMG SUCKS BECAUSE I DRIVE A BIMMMER" camp. |

To all the nay-sayers:
Lets be real, it's been a long time since M has been about light-weight purist-oriented products (I'm looking at you X5M). 6-speed manuals and high revs have been getting phased out for years now. In the GT-car age of today's BMW, I'd welcome the effortless torque that the AMG philosophy might bring. Lets also not forget that while we've all been clamoring for an M halo car, AMG has come out with many compelling products that BMW can't match. SLR, SLS, the black series range... I'd like to see some of that from BMW too |

This is not a good news, AMG cars are only good for straight line drags and are terrible for handling, also they burn alot of tires. If he is really joining, I hope he doesnt make the M division just another version of AMG.

He's a senior guy. He's long past aha moments. His job is to schmooze at cocktail parties and take credit for ideas that the teams of engineers come up with. He'll just be a replacement cog in the German pecking order. |

BTW in case you haven't noticed there won't be any N/A engines anyway. Of course maybe he made that decision while at Mercedes. #conspiracy #illuminati |
