I must say I am not really a MB man. I am into BMW’s as you all know by now. But I have been hearing about this Maybach museum for quite some time now… and when I heard they have a special exhibition of Glas cars on display (only) until 05. Mai 2013. I just knew I had to go!

The last time I saw some Glas cars was at the BMW Museum. Here is a link to that coverage of mine...

BMW Museum Exhibit on Glas Scooters and Cars (Former Unit of BMW Group)
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=703609

The museum is located about 45 minutes (East) outside of Nürnberg (Nuerenberg) on the A3 heading towards the Czech border, before Regensburg. IF you are in the area... its worth a visit.

The museum is on the grounds of a former bicycle factory going all the way back to 1884! Then in later times they made mopeds and motorcycles. For a long time the factory was vacant and in disrepair. The museum owner’s uncle owned the land(and building) and recued the factory from the cities bulldozers. Since 2005 it has been an auto museum for Maybach cars. It also is preserving the history of the Maybach. They had Maybach tank(Panzer) engines, and even little models of the Zeppelin air ships that the Maybach engines powered. I must say I was really impressed with this museum. I enjoyed my visit there.

Really is a shame that production had to be stopped and cancelled. I don't know why they couldn't differentiate the exterior enough from the S-Class but if they did, I think they could've competed with Rolls Royce and Bentley. Just look at that interior...

It's a shame Mercedes ruined the brand. I think they would have sold better if the design was better and the price was a bit lower

I have spoken to people who worked on Maybach in marketing and are kind of disappointed that the car has now become a patische instead of being taken seriously against Rolls-Royce and Bentley. The car had the potential to be a new approach to modern luxury but did not take the brand to its potential.
One Phantom customer told me that when he required about purchasing a Maybach he was told which entertainment customers had one. To which he came and bought a Phantom instead. Because aristocratic Europeans are not familiar and some even wholly despise that whole image.

RR has that image that appeals there is a legacy to RR and when the covers come off the new RR Wraith at Geneva in just over a weeks time the Maybachs failure will be complete because they done nothing , no investment whilst RR brought the Ghost to the market aswell as the additional Phantom models.
Maybachs crowning achievement was endorsements by pillars of society such as Bernie Madoff who had four Maybachs to ass clowns like Chris Brown and Kanye West.
Not to say RR does not have their fair share of popular unlikeable customers.

Although I did once see a Dubai registered Landaulet outside a hotel in Monte Carlo with a sumptuous black leather interior with contrast piping ..... After the seagulls visited. Which is a reminder of that old lightbulb joke.
To wipe seagull shit it took four people.

So now Mercedes are leveraging on the S-Klasse brand to rejuvenate the Maybach in that segment , which industry rumours point out that the upcoming S-Klasse is effectively the abandoned "small" Maybach the Maybach 53.

But at around the same time the super S-Klasse is revealed, 2016.
Rolls-Royce will roll out the next Phantom which is a sleeker , more raked back but just as large as today's model with ultra modern looks and an all new V16 engine to position the Phantom above the Ghost.
The design is not simply a larger Ghost.
Along with the standard Coupe , Drop-Head and EWB there will also be a V16 powered intimate 2 seater Roadster.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I mean the too-similar-S-Class exterior was just one of the missteps by Mercedes handling of the Maybach brand. People who buy the Rolls Royce's and the Bentley's only care about luxury and comfort, so there's no doubt that Mercedes who excels in these areas could've made the Maybach brand into something much more. Like you said, Rolls Royce has it's heritage. Maybach could've been the modern luxury.

My image of these cars has been permanently tainted after seeing people like Birdman rap about how much "young money" they have to buy these cars.

Cools pics though!

It doesn't take much these days.

It's old money that shows the test of time. Anybody can rent a car and use it in a music video. To bad the young ones now are mostly superficial.

Values have gone out the window with the newer generation.

Mainly my own but we talk especially if our product is bastardised for the vacuous opportunity for someone or their family to show how much money we have for doing nothing of actual importance. Not only is it flaunted it is then rammed down your throat and then exported to us in Germany as some sort of twisted mission for global dominance.

They convince they are role models but all they are for is to show how to get everything through deception and manipulation whilst not actually gaining any achievement through actual hard work , education and commitment.

On a plus note when the Phantom DropHead Coupe was not even available and all that was there was the 100EX when the stars came calling to use for publicity , BMW refused every request and every offer unlike Maybach which whored the Exelero.

I agree 100%. The "stars" like big, fast, and shiny; if it meets those requirements they will endorse it. Which means their endorsements represent absolutely nothing. Whats really sad (for us Americans, I realize its not that significant to others) is that these celebrity endorsements are making their way into the US elections more and more. Those ass clowns went full out this past election. Anyway back to cars. There are exceptions to celebrity endorsements, the ones that actually know about cars. People like Jay Leno, Matt LeBlanc, or Rowan Atkinson are people that I wouldn't mind endorsing a car as long as it was done in a tasteful manner. As for the Exelero didn't need to be whored out. It already looked like a cheap hooker, so it could have done that itself.

So I'm not the only one that thought the Exelero was a POS? I remember all the forums giving "ooo's and ahh's" but I thought the design was terrible...
