Still not happy with my brakes
Stock f30 335i M-Sport package. 1,200 miles.
The dust doesn't annoy me, the squeaking has since diminished, but the brakes are just not grabby enough. It's a bit dangerous. This is a big departure from my e90 330i, which had amazing stock brakes and exhibited great braking control in distressful situations. I am really concerned the brakes on this f30 may perform poorly in the event of an emergency, and I don't want to be the first one to find out. It seems like one would need to I stomp on the brakes with both feet. Any suggestions? |

Stange, I think my brakes perform like a boss. I just can't get used to the dusk and the noises. Irks the shit out of me. I have the same brakes as you.

I did re-delivery at the Performance Center and used a 335i in the driving exercises there. One of the exercises is emergency braking, and the 335i brakes worked perfectly. In the exercise, you speed up to certain speeds (30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55) and then slam on the brakes as fast and hard as you can and attempt to steer through cones. Believe me, in an emergency your brakes are not unsafe in any way.
I think that your problem is that they do feel very different from the E90. For me, the difference is that there is a little more pedal travel that is needed, which I prefer anyways. However, when you need to stop and slam your foot down, you will have no problems. |

Which package? 335i Sport or M-Sport? What are you comparing them to (what's your daily driver)? |

With the m sport you have the euro pads which have more bite than the US standard pads. The pads are very good, especially when heated up, but I do agree the F30s brake feel is a bit squishier than I like. They aren't unsafe in any way and will work well when called upon. Try bedding them in properly and you'll notice an improvement in performance.
Otherwise, just swap out the pads (to hawks or pagid or something equivalent) and replace the brake lines to stainless steel. That will fix the pedal feel for sure. |

I have a AH3 M-sport... I had the absolutely worst "close call" just last week. A car in front of me suddenly stopped at the second of two red lights on either side of a train track crossing. This meant I had to perform the most aggressive street braking I've ever had to do. I was certain I would rear-end the car in front of me. I dug into the brakes, and the car stopped from 30+mph, just inches away from a collision.
The M-sport brakes did just fine by me... and certainly helped me avoid thousands in collision damage. |

Anyway, did you feel the ABS engage in your case and did it work good? I'm looking forward to driving a car with at least minimal safety features...... |

There are two traffic lights on either side of a set of train tracks. They are <50ft apart. The first light turned yellow, and we both went through at full speed. The second light was also yellow, but the guy in front decided to stop, which of course I was not expecting. Also, the train was coming through the tracks, so as I'm stopped within inches of the car in front of me, the train is barreling through, now just a few feet behind my car. Scary stuff. |

I've had my car for almost a month w/ 1700 miles on it. Directly before the f30 I had a 2012 Optima SX and a 2007 Tahoe but I've had experience w/ a bunch of ish.

Stock pads n rotors are more than safe for daily use.. most people don't realize diff cars have diff brake pedal feel. For instance, accord will give much softer brake pedal feel n grab much more with less pressure, vs evo will req much harder brake pedal pressure to get similar stopping (but pressure to friction ratio is much more linear with evo, which helps in modulating braking in racing situations) if you are looking for better initial bite, you need different pads. Ofcourse usually higher perf pads usually have more dusts and noise associated with it. .

Well, I only had a single "emergency" so far, and the brakes did perfectly fine. In fact, I was convinced I would have a collision, but I ultimately did not.
I came directly from a brand-new M3. I don't think the M-sport brakes are inferior in any way, for normal street driving. |

Mine are amazing, and this is with the stock base pads and rotors. Good initial bite.

I wouldn't say you're exagerating. If you're not happy w/ them, then you're not happy w/ them. It could just be the way they are or something could actually be wrong w/ them.
You'll probably have to take it in. Maybe drive another one and see how it feels.

Mine feel a bit funny at the beginning of a drive, but that's simply because it's always below freezing at night and the rotors get a bit of rust on them, even in the damn garage. But, once that's cleaned off and they warm up a bit, I have no issues. Hell, sometimes they seem a little too grabby for what I was used to in my e36.

Coming from my E90 335i to my F30 328i the brakes had the same characteristics but once I added the Mperformance brakes the initial brake feel definitely softened up. That said, despite the softer initial bite they definitely perform better than the stock setup and were further improved with the addition of SS brake lines.
This is not quite the same scenario as you but it may help -Scott

No need to be all smart ass about it. Was just trying to give you a little insight. Since when my friends drove my previous vehicle, they thought my brakes didn't work well, but they just weren't applying enough pressure. And yes you sound like you don't know about that crucial field of research.
