Scratch on bumper
To my surprise, I recently discovered a scratch on my bumper. I have no idea how it got there. Maybe it was my fault, maybe it was someone else. I don't know.
What do you recommend me to do? Spend around $500 to repaint the whole bumper or just cover it up with some touch up paint? |

I had the same type of damage in the same spot on my E90. I took a chance and bought the Dr. Color Chip. After a few applications I was able to cover it and it looks pretty good. Not perfect but I'm the only one who notices it now.

Most good body shops will tell you the entire bumper needs to be sprayed to finish correctly. Unlike metal, the bumper is plastic and flex additive is added to the paint. Flex additive also makes it infinitely more difficult to match color correctly, especially metallic colors. So, if you re-spray, expect to spray the entire bumper to get the color match right. That means removing the bumper from car, removing all the bits and lamps attached to the bumper so the re-spray is properly done. If you can get that done for $500, good for you. Hopefully the shop knows what they're doing...
BTW, that damage looks like a shopping cart of something similar.

Call your local dealer. They have mobile guys that come to the stores once a week. You can get that fixed probably for a $100. If you do decide to spray the whole bumper....MAKE Sure that it is removed before its painted. You don't want any visible paint work on your car.

That scrape in on the top will definitely call for a new paint job.
Someone backed into me while I was parked back in May of last year and left two chips on the paint on my front bumper. I went to European Autobody which is a BMW authorised body shop and they quoted me CAD$1500 just for repainting the bumper! The guy was honest though and told me it's not really worth it since the chips are barely noticeable. I'm sure if you take it to a smaller shop, you can get it done for $300 no tax. I had an alpine white LCI E90 trunk repainted to Monaco blue for that much and it was pretty good too. |
