Camera Slider
Not long ago I switched to a DSLR wich can shoot video in HD (my old one couldn't record video) and was searching for a camera slider to shoot footage like this
But I realized, that they are terribly expensive and not really complicated so I decided to give it a shot and build one by myself. I can't wait to try it out. I'll keep you updated.

2 meters of polished metal bars (12mm) like this http://www.ebay.at/itm/200-cm-Rundst...-/350180806637 And for the rest I used extreme hard plastic. The parts were cut out by a milling machine (my dad works at a factory, they do all kind of stuff out of this plastic). But wood would do just fine I guess.

Yeah, I'm working on it. I ordered thiker metal bars (14mm diameter instead of 12mm) and will shorten the slider from 1 meter to 70 cm. This will be still long enought, but will reduce the shaking.

Nice build. I'm in the process of building my own, looked at some youtube vids and got some good ideas.
The only thing I can think of is as you have mentioned - steady movment. I'm thinking of making a plactic chain and a electric motor, as you can find in Lego / Technics. Don't know if its duable yet, but low weight and smooth action should do the job in theory. Last edited by oddis; 05-20-2013 at 02:40 PM.. |

News on the slider: It is ready - 30cm shorter and much more massive to reduce the movement. Also the new camera equipment arrived today. Charging the battery right now. Some testing will be done tomorrow

cool... I assume you shot that video with the NEX -5R?
I wonder how difficult it would be to make your own slider for a much heavier dSLR?
