active cruise control?

I am considering 335xi right now, and just found out that there is an option called active cruise control and saw how it works. Does it mean that there is no such a standard cruise control without that option?

of course there is... dont ask silly questions... thats like asking..... "I'm looking at a car that has optional rain sensing wipers....does that mean the car doesnt have regular wipers if I dont pick this option?"

Common dude... it's a 40+ thousand dollar car... do you really think it wont come with cruise controll?

Its got to be a rare thing to find on a 3 series mostly found on a 5 or 7 but even then rare. But basically it adds a radar unit to the front and uses that to control your speed if say you are coming up on a car it will sense the car and slow down to the speed of the car in front of you and keep a pre set distance that you can control, and once the car in front changes lanes and its clear it will resume your selected speed..

Overall I dont think its worth it, neat gadget yes but not worth it.

I'd disagree but only because I use cruise a lot on the highways. Active Cruise control would have been a smart move for me. It all depends on how much you're going to be using cruise control. Especially on clogged highways or freeways, Active Cruise control can be really worth it. Even for that one long roadtrip you go on it can save a lot of strain on your foot. For example, I was driving from Toronto to Montreal the other weekend and while I had my cruise control on (non active) i had to keep my foot hovered over my brakes just in case. So whats the point of having cruise?!

Couldn't agree more. A cracking feature that will eventually become common place amongst most standard cars. The roads will be a lot safer and traffic will move more smoothly the more cars that have ACC.

Kind of takes some of the fun out of driving though!

I like the idea of the gadget but I can't stand the look at the front with the sensor in the bumper. Maybe when they make stealthier...

Does anyone know if the 2008 3 series has the Active Cruise Control with stop and go like the 5 series?

It doesn't.

At least mine doesn't, and it's a 2008 model year E91. When the car comes to a stop the cruise control disengages.

On a more general note, I will say that it's definitely one of the features on my car that I enjoy the most. I actually use it more on the highways than on the motorways mainly because that's where I've been seeing the largest amount of queueing traffic.

Also, it's far more effective than you'd think at first. I've driven distances of 2-300 kilometers without even touching the brake or the speeder.

+1 great feature for long commutes/drives.

one side note....it also helps if you happen to be distracted by talkign to the passenger next to you...or trying to settle the kids at the back seat for a second....and an obstacle slows down a lot in front of you...the radar will detects and brake according to the distance it measured....it will even emergency hard brake if necessary.....as well as a loud alert of ACC dis-engege......(i.e. time to put ur leg on the brake now!)....

No need for it here, but in the US I'm sure it's worth it. As long as you don't depend on it completely.

Besides the distance control, it's not much different than the standard cruise control (I guess, though someone could very well jump in here and give a laundry list of reasons it's different, so disregard my last statement).

Yeah it's most definitely worth having. I wish they'd offer it on the E92/93. Most likely it will be on the next generation cars I'm thinking.

Huh? It's always been available on the E92/93. I have it on my March 2007 build 335 E92.
