Spearco or Water or Both?
Given the option to do either the bigger cooler or water injection, or both, which would you do?
I know it will depend on what you are looking for & what type of driving you do. I have an Aquamist water injection kit & was considering installing that instead of the Spearco. I have had great experience with water in the past. Really good for reducing intake temps & heat soak & preventing dett. Also can add some volume to the intake charge especially if you use meth or nitromethane. I guess a cooler & water overlap in certain arears like reducing intake temps but a good cooler can really add more volume & the reduced pressure loss could help high rpm power. I have already decided on the cooler, but I will log data & see if water would add some benefit if you already have a really efficient intercooler. I personally think that if you do a lot of highway driving the cooler will get the airflow to keep things in check. If you do a lot of drag racing then you will still get heat-soak & water might help. |

in a drag racing application, water-meth injection workd better than an air to air intercooler. Now, if you go to air to water intercooler then you could net some serious numbers.
I ran the spearco water injection kit on another vehicle prior to owning the 335 and netted great results. without a tune I gained 12 whp. With the tune, I was able to extract an additional 29whp without any increase to boost! Like any power adder, tuning is key. the Spearco intercooler will net you some nice gains but a tune designed to maximize the limited pressure loss will gain even more power. but if you were going to do one and only one...i would go with the Spearco Water injection kit, with a proper tune...

be sure you get it tuned though.
post some install pics when you get it done. i'm curious as to where you are going to tap into the IC pipe for the nozzle. Those are plastic pipes so it might be tricky! good luck

The cooler is done. I'm not gonna' do the water for now, until I see the need after logging enough data.
While we we installing the cooler I got a good look at how to do the water. Pretty easy. The washer bottle is behind the driver side (passenger side for you guys) fender lining. Couple of bolts & that comes off. Tap into that bottle & route the water pipe to the other side of the car. The placement of the jet will be tricky, I rate just before the throttle body would be a good idea, but you right about the pipe, it's a bit dodge. There's a grommet under the ECU to get the controller wiring into the car. Power & ground are easy to get. I think it can be done in under 2 hours. |

Will you Dyno with the new IC?? Also, you should write up a DIY on the install as I will be installing mine in the nexk week or so. A DIY on the "injection kit" is a must also..lol....if you are able to. :rocks:

BTW, if you go the both route, you would be more then well off with a Stett Performance FMIC and the snowperformance methanol, its a sick combo also the Stett Performance IC uses a Spearco core so you get a better design for less buck
We did 5 dyno pulls with no heat soak btw. I track the car and heatsoak is a thing of the past |

As for the Injection kit, I'm waiting for authorization from the boss to go ahead and do a DIY write up for it on the 335. Nozzle placement will be the only issue and I'm trying to find a sensible solution for it. We might just have to replace another plastic IC pipe with a black chrome aluminum one and have the bung welded to it. This works well on other applications.

I haven't had time to do a proper dyno using the procedure I normally use to ensure the results are representative. But I did a quick 2 runs driving straight off the highway with pump fuel & there was no peak power gain. The curve was a bit flatter after the peak though. Will do some logs & proper dyno's this week-end if I get a chance:

At turbo-kits.com they have a dyno with the alleged results. http://www.turbo-kits.com/3_series_turbo_kits.html
