Reduced Engine Power when Cold?

I've noticed that when starting my car first thing in the morning, the first quarter/half a mile I have severely reduced power.

Is this normal?

I usually tend to let the car warm up a bit before I take it off the drive, but sometimes when I'm in a bit of a rush I cut it a bit short and get the reduced power for a bit.

I always notice that diesels are horrible for the first 1/2 mile or so, feels like the engine is full of treacle!

Just warming up I suppose?

That's what I thought, I was just hoping someone could confirm it's normal.

With the warranty running out in about 2 weeks thought I'd try to get as much work done as possible! So thought this might be another saving I could make

Isn't the beginning of a clogged DPF?

Already had it removed

Edit: Also had MOT the other day, passed first time with the emissions/soot test in a cloud of black smoke!

Before there was never any smoke and exhaust tips were clean, now tips are black and when you floor it there's enough smoke to see it in the mirrors! Only smokes for like half a second though.. And is usually a lot worse when you've been pootling around it stuck in traffic
