Dealer wants wheels back

My buddy just ordered a f30, they delivered his car to him with the wrong set of wheels. They gave him nicer 19's rather than the 18's. They are calling him wanting the wheels back and want to give him the standard 18's now. Can they do this? Has anybody had this happen to them?

If the Bill of Sale specifies 18" wheels then unfortunately yes they can ask for an demand the 19" wheels back. An error or mistake like this doesn't mean he should benefit. There is a limitation period of course.

If you made the mistake how would you want it to be handled?

Why not ask if they'd be willing to come to an agreement of sorts? If not, give the wheels back

The right thing to do is return the wheels or try to work out a mutually beneficial deal to keep them. The wheels/tires are no longer new so he should be able to get a good deal. Did he not notice the 19" when the car was picked up? I bet he did and thought that he had beat the system.

How does a vehicle get delivered with the "wrong wheels", and how does your buddy not know what he ordered? If he likes what he has, tell the dealership to pound sand.

I have never once heard of a car being sold with the wrong wheels on it. Whether they're being truthful or deceptive it's safe to say that you're dealing with some real professionals here. :/

Really??? So you go to Best Buy and buy a high-def TV that retails for $2500, they ring it up at $500 and you say nothing. You can argue that it's their problem but have some freak'n morals.

Seriously, I ordered my car with ZSP, I def noticed that there were 255's in the rear the day I picked up my car.

I have wondered how people actually know that they got AWD if that's what they ordered, a dealer could slap an emblem on a car, what do most car buyers know anyway? imho if you bought an AWD car, you had better get the **** under it and make sure there's an axle and differential in the rear if it's a FWD vehicle otherwise. imho harder to tell when a car is RWD, and you order AWD....

You're definitely right, if I paid them $500, left the store and have a $2500 tv in my living room, I'll be calling them, because they had better put the rewards on my credit card for a $2500 purchase, not $500.

This is a huge problem in the used car market, an SRT8 badge sells for 30-something at the dealership for example and if the buyer doesn't lift the hood then someone could sell their V6 Challenger as such.
