Pontiac G8
What do people think of this car. Should be fast. Handling? Stigma?
http://www.caranddriver.com/autoshow...ontiac-g8.html http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/07/c...-pontiac-g8-h/ The base G8 model receives a 3.6L DOHC V-6 with variable valve timing, rated at 261 horsepower (194 kW). It is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. The G8 GT is powered by a uniquely configured 6.0L small-block V-8, rated at 362 horsepower (270 kW) and 391 lb.-ft. of torque (530 Nm). A six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode is standard and features the fuel-saving Active Fuel Management system, which enhances fuel economy by alternating between eight- and four-cylinder power. An optional six-speed manual transmission will be available soon after launch. A limited-slip rear differential is standard with GT models. |

It's ugly and it's a Pontiac! If it's built like any other Pontiac I have been in I'd stay away.

It's not a Pontiac. It just wears the Pontiac badge. It's actually a Holden Commodore. Don't bring perception into this because you know what the perception of BMW's are.

Actually, its a Pontiac. The quality differences and subtle nuiances between products sold as Holden cars and products sold as Pontiacs have been duly noted by Holden faithful and those who have experienced both cars first hand. It's almost to the point of Tahoe vs. Yukon. 300C vs. Magnum, LS460 vs. Camry... Hahaa, I kid on that last one.

Good for a pontiac.... but unless the price was insanely cheap, i couldn't deal with it, even when they are given a good car, they will somehow bitch it up.

The wheels and headlights really cheapen the look of the car imo. Should be quite the performer though.

The folks at 5th Gear seem to like it (and so do I):
Also, it's a 5 series competetor, so the weight isn't that bad considering what you are getting... ... And it's NOT a Pontiac. |

Well after driving a SS-V Commodore (g8) i must say it is a great car. Handling and chassis are good but of course not like a BMW. However if you folks in the States are lucky you might be getting our HSV vehicles which is just an absolute blast to drive. I would choose a HSV GTS (soon to have LS3) over a 335 sedan anyday. Of course the HSV varient has much better handling and great dynamics over the SS-V(g8).

What that article doesn't mention is there a third model coming out about a year or so after the initial release under the Pontiac/GM Performance Division brand of GXP. That car will have the 6.0 V8 like the GT version, but will be pumping out close to 450hp
I love BMW but I will be buying a G8. I will keep my 335/M3 (not sure whether I am keeping my 335 or going with the M3) and use the Pontiac as my daily driver. |

I used to give GM a lot of crap over the years, however Holden has made some huge leaps and bounds with this particular car. Plus, it's been tested in the outback where the roads aren't necessarily nice! How many other cars can claim that? |

It's obvious that you have never seen the inside of a Holden vehicle (i.e the GTO) of pics of the G8s interior. Very nice quality with great touch and feel. I have 66K miles on my goat and it still does not creak or rattle. Feels just as tight today as it did the day I drove it off the lot. The G8 GT/GXP will be an easy car to tune and turn the power up via tuning software. |

However we both love our muscle cars and especially Australian muscle cars that i must say look and drive great. Athough i must say the G8 body kit that Pontiac has put on is not my cup of tea. So im sure the SS-V kits will be brought in by the mods shops in the States and i know if you do get the car you'll probably be the first to get one. The G8 commodore should be out now, have you driven it yet? |
