I'm not sure, but i think you can just install the mufflers to your stock mid pipes( that's what most people do)

Looks like the cat-back eliminates the resonator in an e90 and converts in into an X/H pipe like in the e92's/e93's. if you have an e90 id say get the catback, if you have an e92 or e93 go with the rear section only.

I'm a bit worried now, just got the PE installed today at the dealer, I asked for my old exhaust back and they only gave me the mufflers no pipes!!
I was there after the technicians and SA left so I couldn't get any answers but I told them exactly what is above, there are two model numbers - one for mufflers only and one for catback and I ordered the later so why didn't I get the pipes!

Another thing I noticed which is worse is that there is significant drone between 2200-2900 RPM, the interior of the car is resonating and vibrating and I'm hating it!! I want to go back to them but I'll be traveling tomorrow and probably won't get a chance for a while, any input on these two issues very much appreciated!

1 - no pipes on PE just the mufflers (I raised the car and the stock XPipe is there, there is no secondary resonator - could this be why they didn't install it?)

2- DRONE between 2k-3k RPM - is it normal, does it go away with time??

^^^ sounds like they did not install the x-pipe which replaces your resonator. Drone is normal ...every exhaust has a bit but it really depends on your acceptance level. I don't mind and have the full system. That said, my 135 set up was much louder

Hope you didn't pay full price.

No i got it for 1150ish + 125 installation - this from a BMW dealer!
Now the car when I looked already has an xpipe - no resonator like on the E90 (mine is an E93) - so is that changed as well with the PE or not? (there was an E90 on a lift next to mine at the dealer so I looked there and saw the resonator and no xpipe on it while mine had the xpipe as stock.

also narrowing down the drone issue, I am not sure if it's the right word for the symptom I'm experiencing so let me try to explain again:

between 2k and upto less than 3k RPM - there's a plastic type vibration coming from the back seat somewhere. It sounds like when a subwoofer ratles a license plate but without the bass that accompanied just the vibration - IS THIS DRONE OR SOMETHING ELSE???

They did the battery cable recall at the same time - could this be something loose back there or is it drone? Any help/thoughts appreciated!

Ok..gotcha...can't tell if you have a coupe on my iPhone. The e90 stock has a resonator where the pipes meet. I dont believe coupes do. Drone, to my knowledge, is the vibration in the cabin which resonates caused by the exhaust vibration.

Sorry, meant coupe.

Thanks! What exactly is vibrating is it something in the plastics? Can it be deadened or depressed?

The exhaust sound is reverberating causing the vibration with all things being equal. Otherwise, you could have something loose in the cabin or under the car causing another noise or vibration. It can be suppressed if nothing else is causing the vibration by a resonator. GL

I see you do have a vert which i think is the same (mid section) as a coupe.

Gentlemen - thank you all for taking the time to reply and address my concerns. I appreciate it a lot. I am clear on why the xpipe isn't included now. Also the vibration was a lot less this morning. It appears to be coming from the little sliding door thingy in between the rear seats - I moved it around until the sound is barely noticeable. If it gets worse or anything changes - I will update this thread for future reference to others.
