usb in arm rest problem

im havin an issue with the usb port in the arm rest. i have a 2008 e92 m sport and everytime i play any track from the usb it only plays for a few minutes somtimes even seconds then randomly stops.

a sign on the screen then says"not connected" then it switches to either radio or cd.

once this happens i cant select usb for at least 2 minutes as it has the two blank lines over the usb sign.

after a few minutes it shows up normally again i select usb then the whole cycle continues

Maybe a short? Or software issue?

that was my first thought so yesterday i got the centre console out and everything looks ok. whats puzzling tho is that its soo random.

longest run was 15 minutes of driving and playin tracks then it happened then somtimes it happens as soon as the track starts.
