DIY car alarm?
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1487
the situation is this: -dealer (Elite BMW) is asking $699 + tax for the OEM car alarm and installation. -car alarm only costs $250 including shipping to buy. -dealer says it takes 4 hours, so basically they are charging $100/hr for labour. -I have zero mechanical experience -and the DIY on this website is 2 years old for an e90. should i: a) attempt the DIY and if I fail bring it to the dealer to connect it? b) bend over and take $699 + tax hit to my wallet? c) look for another dealership or friend in Ottawa who can hook it up for less? d) faghettabout the stupid alarm! |

a) don't attempt anything if u don't have experience.
b) wait. c) Look for a shop that can do it for u for less or try otto's BMW i don't know how far are they from where u live (call and ask them here is their Number (613)725-3048) d) No man its not worth it. |

diy alarm
I'd give it a try. It is very easy. The DIY info is great and then just let the dealer program it. There is really not much you can screw up. The hardest part is taking out the wheel liner. All those screws. Really it is simple. If you try and chicken out its no big deal - you will not hurt anything.

1) if you're hesitant, call around to local tuner stores....they should be able to help you even though they may have never attempted it before
2) attempt to do it yourself. it really is a simple DIY. i would have done it myself if there wasnt a special going on when i got it 3) pay the dealer the asking price because you will need to bring it in to activate anyways!

Ivan I just got an idea, the place that T Bone knows of, the one that can disable DRL's, I wonder they have the ability to enable the alarm functions as well?

Hell, I can install it for you in an hour if you want. The install is a joke. The problem is the activation, which I believe in the Ottawa area will run you $100. Still haven't gotten around to the activation.
