What Exactly Consists Of The "FBO" Label That So Many Guys Are Throwing Around...
As the title clearly states, what is considered FBO?
I come across numerous threads, new and old of guys claiming to be full bolt on however, where is the line drawn? Is FBO in reference to power mods only......one would think that oil coolers, lower charge pipes and upgraded brakes would be part of the equation....Right? Help me out guys (and ladies) and share your opinion as to what should be, better yet......what IS FBO? Is it fairly accurate to assume that the average FBO N54 is achieving 375-400 WHP?

^Yep. That's what I always considered it to be.
EDIT: There are obviously more bolt ons out there than just that, but those are the big power adders. I wouldn't consider oil coolers, charge pipes, diverting valves, etc. to be needed to be considered 'FBO'.

Hmmm... Would have thought Meth would have been apart of that.... What kind of WHP are you guys seeing with those mods?

From what I've seen, people usually specify FBO+Meth or FBO no meth.
EDIT: FBO, 93 octane, no meth, JB4 G5 ISO, I made 378rwhp and 417rwtq on a dynojet. I have yet to dyno with my meth kit installed, but my butt dyno tells me it will be a good bit more.

Thanks for clearing it up! I was expecting a huge parts list.... These engines make good power off of basic mods..

It is a bolt on item however, not generally included when referencing "FBO" (from my understanding)

I never really considered an exhaust in FBO because it adds nothing but sound and weight savings. Power gains are minimal. All the gains are from the downpipes up front. Oddly enough though I do consider a charge pipe to be FBO even though it doesnt add power

In my opinion: A charge pipe is to a fmic as a exhaust is to down pipes.. They just round out the mods already in place..

Yea agreed. I guess I consider charge pipe in the FBO category because once you get in the higher power levels your oem one will break eventually like mine did. But with exhaust you really don't need to replace it unless you're pushing crazy power

FBO = FMIC, Intake, DPs, CP, DVs (or Blow off valve), cat back exhaust.

I have more mods than this, including a charge pipe, diverter valves, oil catch can, wavetrac, HPF clutch, DCI, intake valve cleaning, fresh spark plugs, etc. The mods I listed were just the 'significant' power adders.
