Testing the OpenFlash OTS Stage 1 map with FBO+upgraded turbos

Yesterday I loaded up the OpenFlash OTS Stage 1 map and took the car for a rip. The first thing I noticed was how aggressively quick and precise boost onset is. It is so aggressive that my charge pipe blew off on the 2nd pull The funny thing is Shiv said the same thing happened to him testing this map on another car. Coincidence? maybe... either way it's probably not a bad idea to tighten down your charge pipe a little

This map is designed for a much less modded car, yet right out of the box with no tweaks it worked absolutely perfectly on my car (which has every bolt on and upgraded turbos). There were no boost control issues: no boost oscillation issues, no boost overshoots, nothing. It's neck breaking down low and buttery smooth up top throughout the pull.

This is very conservative on my car (17.5psi at 4k tapering quickly to 13psi), but it's still fun to play with. It's especially cool to see boost control so perfect without having to mess with anything. I think you'll all enjoy this mapping

I have a feeling my car is going to need a clutch soon after running these...

No boost overshoots is awesome...easy to dial them out in ATR, but its still a pain in the ass to deal with in the first place.

Thanks for testing JP! Our OpenFlash OTS maps do things a bit differently than what many OTS map users are used do with other flashing devices. They offer unusually good boost control and throttle modularity. Two things usually aren't associated with flash tunes. We have also mapped them in such a way that they shouldn't *need* any custom tuning to get them run properly (ie, without boost oscillation or strange jumpiness). Even when run on cars with a variety of mods/wastegates/turbos/etc,. Custom tuning will always help but I'd say it's for the last 10% of performance/drivability. Not the lasts 40% as has been the case from what I've seen.

How was the Procede utilized or you were running the tune just by itself without meth?

My reactions are not scientific, but just knowing what boost should be i've observed no overshooting during the aggressive ramp up

Right now, you can determine boost overshoot/throttle closure by just looking at the realtime data screen. We've positioned the active bar graphs for actual throttle, boost target and boost to be next to each other. And scaled them so that, at WOT, the bars will move to the same position. So if you get overshoot, throttle closure, etc,. it it will be very obvious even at a glance.

It's a bit more convenient than having to log to the device and view later with laptop. But that option is coming soon too.

Along the same lines....what about Procede+Meth? Map 4 with specific settings or new firmware to allow for both?

Currently my car is stock, but when i install this I dont want to get stuck on the side of the road because of a charge pipe. I thought the charge pipe was held on by a special bmw clip? Or are you running one that uses a t-bolt setup?

If the pipe can pop off with the clip what tool would you need, just a flat head?

He has an aftermarket charge pipe with just a standard hose clamp on both ends. The factory charge pipe, with big c-clip, can't blow off like that

Unless you're also running Vishnu's meth system, I would recommend getting the ER chargepipe which utilizes the factory c-clip connection to the throttle body. It will not pop off.

The factory chargepipe is designed well, apart from the fact it's made out of plastic! Under high boost it will sooner or later shatter at the c-clip connection
