DMS mapped car - added FMIC & downpipes. Remap needed again?
Hi there, I bought my E91 335i with a DMS remap already done. The car made 368bhp with this.
Since I bought the car I have fitted BMS dual cone filters, VRSF downpipes and VRSF 7" intercooler. I had the car on the rolling road yesterday after getting the downpipes and FMIC fitted, it made 394bhp. What I wanted to know is, should I be getting the map tweaked by DMS again to suit? I have even considered getting the jb4, this actually works out a good bit cheaper than getting the DMS map done again too. Would it just be a case of wiping the original DMS remap and installing the jb4? I don't know too much about the jb4, seems to have a lot of features though. Finally, does anyone here run the BMS meth kit? This is another reason I was interested in possibly getting the jb4. |

its probably worth checking with DMS mate but the fact your power has increased suggests you may be fine since its been able to take advantage of the better gas flow and cooler air

The guys who rolling roaded the car after the FMIC and downpipes were fitted said the fuelling etc was spot on. I also spoke to DMS last week who said the car would definately need the map adjusted.
But at £595+vat to get it re-done, it seems quite alot of money to me. |

Definately needs doing again to take advantage of the bolt on mods.
You can run much higher boost targets than you currently will be.. Depends how aggressive you want to be.

You will need the map adjusting to take full advantage of the recent mods. I would guess there is about another 20bhp to be released. But.....
Just get a JB4. Much cheaper and will auto adjust for any future mods and different grades of fuel. Live datalogging. Code reading. Meth control. 2 stage boost limit for 1st + 2nd. Gear change indication. Lag + rattle fix. + loads of other features. WM |

The car will be running fine, just like it was before the map. But the intake temps are now lower, and the exhaust gas flows away easier, meaning more gasses can come in and out, meaning you could up the boost a little more, or make the same power but earlier etc.

Downside of a remap, not futureproof wrt needs tweaking to get the best out of any subsequent bolt-ons.
+1 for piggyback [JB4 or procede] as both have auto tune mode which adapts to make the most of bolt ons |

you wont need a remap, the engine management is more than capable of adjusting itself for the better flow and charge temperatures, hence you are already getting more power.
more flow = more air, which the engine will fix with more fuel, naturally. the only thing a remap could do is up the boost more, now that the turbos are doing less "work", a remap could push the turbos harder to make some more power, but i would just leave it as is. |

Personally I would rather go with the COBB system in your case, but the JB4 is certainly a good solution as well. Alpina_B3_Lux

With the new OpenSource BB Flash, JB4 with Backend flash has a lot going for it. Many of the new stock turbo records are going to BMS at present and driveability has improved drastically from having the fueling/timing done by a flash. As he's also considering Meth its a much cheaper option than the Cobb/HS4 kit. Money no object a PTF tune with HS4 seems to be widely regarded as the best.
