Is there anyway to override/control the factory exhaust "flapper" solenoid?
I am running a Procede unit, plugging the solenoid back in isn't an option... nor would it help with what I am trying to do.
I would like to override my exhaust flapper solenoid so it is still disconnected from the dme (allowing the Procede to mask codes), yet can still be manually switched open and closed. Has anyone done this before? or does anyone have a wiring diagram that could help. It should be pretty straight forward and useful. I am planning on running catless downpipes down the road, so it would be helpful when leaving my house/neighborhood late at night. My plan is to use a basic toggle switch at first then a universal wireless 12v remote. I am also looking to use a factory connector (not looking to hack up wires), a part number would be very helpful. Thanks everyone!

search "golf tee mod" on this site or buy some Cyba tips and cut the sucker off.

Procede doesn't control the CAN flap optionally? FWIW, the JB4 does. Not as an on-off switch but basically as an option of "normal operation" and "always open". That may not be the behavior you are seeking though...

Golf Tee Mod/physically plugging it is the easiest means, but obviously then you’d have to reach under it whenever you wanted to adjust the tone. Honestly with the way these cars run open loop on cold start, it’s going to be very loud if you are catless, regardless of the bypass solenoid. I wouldn’t stress over it.

To my knowledge, the solenoid does not have to be disconnected for the Procede to mask codes, it was always just recommended. That being said, the easiest way for you to accomplish what you want would involve cutting one of the wires going to the solenoid and wiring the switch inline. I know that is not exactly what you are looking for, but it would give you your desired endstate. During cold starts and late at night, you have the switch completing the circuit allowing the solenoid to operate as intended.
To do it exactly how you are wanting would involve finding the PN for the factory connector and figuring out how the solenoid functions. I haven't ever put a multi-meter to it, but it could be a simple 12v circuit. Assuming it is a 12v circuit, to do it correctly and prevent possible drain on the battery I would wire from the solenoid negative lead directly to chassis ground. The 12v lead would go from the solenoid + wire to one side of a switch. The other side of the switch would go to a 12v circuit in the fuse panel that is ignition controlled. That way if you forget to turn the switch off, it wouldn't continue to drain the battery overnight. Although it wouldn't likely kill the battery, its still best to avoid constant drain on the battery. The switch would only function when the key was inserted. |

The reason I want to have full control/override is for sound and comfort. My last vehicle was a 6.0L LSx Chevelle which I ran with open headers for a while then to a full exhaust (with manual cutouts). My brothers car is 01 SS Camaro 6.0L with a Procharger... Let's just say, I'm sick of loud cars lol. Having the ability to control the volume of my exhaust (even if it is just minimal) while driving around would be amazing, specially when you consider it will cost next to nothing. I would like to be able to drive with the flap closed, even once warmed up - something you cannot currently do.
This is how you would go about it: The purple wire is a ground wire, this is how the dme controls the exhaust flap solenoid. The red white is always hot while the vehicle is running, flap open or not. Run a hot wire where the red goes... Then ground to where the purple white goes with a switch in between. Done.

The easiest solution for what you're looking for is the JB4. You can switch the valve open or closed from the steering wheel controls.
