Ok mate. I previously owned a E46 330d manual and drove a 6sp 120d for half a year(same engine)

The low end torque means you can easily shift at 3000rpm and still go with the flow. Max rpm =4500 but when you shift at 4000 you will go fast enough.

Break it in nice and calm and with loads of different revs somewhere around/below 3000 or 3500 max.

Cold start:same thing.

Cool down after driving fast(er):keep the engine on idle for a minute or so.(because of the spinning turbo which needs to slow down first)

Cheers.

Robin

Yep, as Robin said, no point stretching beyond 4k rpm as there's more to be gained by changing up early. Don't be surprised if you stall it a few times taking off from rest - it needs a few revs. Once above 1500rpm the turbo starts spinning and it starts to fly. Basically, you want to keep it in the 1500 - 4000 band and you'll be fine!!!

When I floor it, people always get a fright! It's hilarious! Nothing, nothing, then 1800-2000rpm, 340Nm torque, and BAM! We're off! I absolutely love it. I'm extremely happy with the 320d and you will be too. Once it's properly broken in, take it to a quiet but open road with some twists and turns and just experiment.

PS: Just saw you are from South Africa. We have a couple of members with 320d's from ZA (broken1 is the first that comes to mind). Maybe he can give you some tips on where to experiment.
