Does your 3series hate winter ?
Seriously, now I understand why some people store their bmw for winter time. My hope was so high to drive a 4 wheels drive during these cold months. But then, I got these problem :
- Car Windows doesn't go up when closing the door (cold days) - Car making strange noise when accelerating - Car slide easily in snow, and DSC sucks during winter - Car doesn't start at -30 degrees Celcius - Car try to wash headlight when they are on, ice doesn't let the cover go up, the springs get loose and then I lost a cover - Car TPMS keep bugging because communication between transceiver and receipter is lost because of snow/ice under car. Make a BIP every 10 seconds - Car folding mirror once retracted to driving position during the day, no idea what happened, made a huge CLICK sound when I unlocked the door Now I think 3series are summer car. DSC sucks during winter? You don't know how to drive.

Do you have winter tires? Are you sure your tires havent gone below proper psi due to cold weather? Try cleaning the ice away from headlights washers before setting off. I've never had trouble with mine except on very cold mornings she is a little slow to start. I'm very happy with its winter performance, next year I will have snow tires and that should really transform it.

My only winter problem is traction because the stock runflats are TERIBBLE in the snow!

Well into my second winter with Vader (and this one has been brutal so far, with super cold temps, lots of snow, and freezing rain), and no issues to speak of. MUCH better than the Cavalier I had before!
For the DSC, I find it too aggressive on the standard setting, but with it in DTC mode (press the button on the dash once), it's perfect for the skating rinks that are the roads around here. Good winter tires are a must too, IMHO. Cheers! |

Yeah, she gets bored sitting inside the garage, with her hood up and a battery tender connected. I checked my droid, and the last time I got gas was on Dec. 4. One time she told me she feels like a prisoner and wants to be unchained, but I tell her no salt for you!

I love my car cause it's just as much of a blast to drive in the winter as in the summer! Sure, it has some quirks, just like every other car, but nothing not easily worked around.
AWD, DTC, Sottozeroes = priceless. |

No, your all seasons are terrible in the snow. Has nothing to do with run flat. I had contipros come stock on my subaru gt as well as my current car and both were atrocious in the snow. Get some snows, you won't regret it.

My car has been doing great! Outside of minor cold quirks that any car would have when the temp is really low.

their is NO DIFFERENCE if I say "stock runflats" or "all seasons". they are both the same tire for me.. Don't try correcting people because you misinterpret things

"There" IS a difference. The stock A/S RFT's are most likely ill-suited for snowy CT. Switch to Winter RFT's or Winter non-RFT's and note the increased traction/control.

All (or most) of the issues go away when the car warms up properly (tires sucking in snow not included).
I especially like the auto transmission that sounds like it's broken until it warms up! |

I have a E91, 320i manual transmission and I think it is a great winter car. Never had problem with starting during winter. I have proper Nokian winter tyres (for Nordic winters) and have never had any problem with DSC. It has a very nice anti slide control compared to my other car (a Toyota). I always charge my battery now and then using C-Tek charger during winter. Always fill up windscreen fluid with antifreeze solution and use 5-30W castrol engine oil for the engine. Spray gummiperflege on the door rubber seals before winter to stop it freezing. that is all that needs for it to sail through minus 15 to minus 20 degrees C.

These cars handle winter easily if you prepare them for it.
1. Get proper winter tires. Forget about all seasons. 2. Check tire pressures. Pressure drops when ambient temperature drops. 3. Use wiper fluid with low enough freezing point. Check other fluids as well. 4. Pre-heat your car. I have a warmup kit with oil pan heater, 1350W cabin heater and 4A battery tender. Coldest temperature my car has seen is -33 celsius and I had no issues starting. 5. Have your battery checked and replaced if needed. 6. Activate the fun mode from DTC button and enjoy the winter. |

I have the Michelin All Season tires on my car and it's ok. I was on a back road the other day and there was a lot of drifting over the road surface in spots. I didn't have any problems whatsoever. But when I got on a road that had like tracks in the snow that you stayed in I really felt the car getting pulled from side to side. I had to go uder 40 which kind of ticked off the guy behind me. I think that was just because the car has such a good feel for the road and the tracks made ruts on the surface.
Did get the low low tire pressure warning once and had to top off my coolant and window washer fluid. But the dealer topped both of them off at not charge when I went in to buy a gallon of coolant.
