side view mirrors tilt in reverse?
okay, now considering i've owned the car (e92) for a whopping 24 hours, i can't be too sure, but i could've sworn the damn side view mirrors tilted when i put the car is REVERSE... but tonight when i got home, the mirrors are NOT tilting downwards?? can someone confirm this?? lol... now it could be the combination of the time and the fact that i'm dead tired, or am i getting the freakin' car mixed up with the C300 that i've been driving for the past month??

You need to flick the switch for your power mirrors from left to right.
One way will make the mirror dip when put into reverse and when the switch is the other way the mirrow wont tilt. |

Fear not... I felt just as stupid 6 years ago.
When you engage the reverse gear at any time while the drivetrain/motor is running, your passenger side mirror (now driver side too, I think.) will tilt downward to give you a view of the ground/curb. (a view your not used to seeing in a static mirror.) It freaked me out me out when I eventually noticed it with the passenger side mirror in my E46 back in 2001. A buddy of mine pointed it out about a month after I bought the fucking car. So much for RTFM, huh? This feature will come in handy before you know it. You will eventually rely on it for parallel parking. (You've been reading way too much forum shit......... Go nail some curves!)

If the power mirror switch is selected for the driver's side (left) the passenger side mirror will tilt down. If the switch is selcted to the right for the passenger side it will not move. Several car makers have this function on their vehicles. I had it on my previous VW Passat

It took me awhile to get used to this feature too but Its great, especially in the tight spaces here in Japan. I have something different with regards tto my mirrors going on though. Need to know if anyone has noticed this on their E90. 2007 335I prod. 8/2007
Has anyone had issues with there mirrors moving when you press the doorlock button in the center of the dash? Its the strangest thing, I think my seat/mirror memory is fowled up along with the doorlock button. |

I found this out on my own. The day i got the car i set everything to the way i liked it and hit the memory button and set it.But everytime i went into reverse the pass side mirrow would angle down which drove me crazy as i dont need it to do that.So i adjusted the mirrors again and left the switch on the passenger side. While backing out of my garage i expected it to angle down but it didnt.I was like what the hell, all of a sudden now its not doing it.Then i noticed the switch facing the pass mirror. I flipped it back to the driver mirror and backed up and it angled down again. So ijust keep it over to the pass mirror (the switch) and all is good.Funny because i was just going to look in the manual to see what was up with that.

update on my funky mirrors and seat memory. The problem I have been having is that when I push the doorlock button in the center console both mirrors would move out of position as well anytime I would lock/unlock the car from outside. This was also affecting my seat/mirror memory which never worked properly. Anyway Just took my car in this morning and they are going to replace a module and re program both of my keys. Some of the info may have been "lost in translation" Since Niether of us are native speakers of the others language. I couldn't find any service bulletins on this issue. In fact the service guys said it was the first time they have seen this problem.
just FYI in case someone else runs into it. thanks |
