Back from ED trip
Unfortunately too short, only 5 days, but enjoyed every bit of it
I highly recommend to anyone even if you dont have much vacation time The process: From minute one everything was highly organized They took my luggage and sent me upstairs for signing papers Nice lady explained thoroughly about paperwork (insurance, registration, drop off, etc), gave me stuff to sign and showed me the way (next room) to free snack bar. Also gave me 10E and 15E cards to use in restaurant and shop. She made reservation at the restaurant and told me what time my car is arriving on the floor. My wife and I had some cappuccino with some food and we rested for half an hour until the car was ready. Exactly at scheduled time guide showed up and we went downstairs to see our car Right from the stairs he opened his little touch-screen controller and the car is now slowly rotating with projectors lighting it from the top It looked like the car was part of the car show. As we went down, he gave me the keyfob and called some girl to take picture of us with the car Few minutes later she brought printed professional photo, wow Guy started explaining about the car and couldn’t stop praising how good it was I kind of fast forwarded him to the next step (features like iDrive, NAV) since I knew already too much about the car, thanks to you fellow members! I had EU Nav disk with me, so after we were done hooking up my iPod we started to input hotels I booked into NAV. He showed me also how to use iDrive for sound, settings, etc, how to program 6 custom buttons and 2 buttons on steering wheel. When we were done I signed papers that car is received and got my luggage back which they put nicely in the trunk. Got free parking ticket and key chain and we left to their parking lot Once parked in their garage we took elevator right to the restaurant where we had our reservation Ate couple of nice steaks followed by nice German beer and did some walking around Welt This new Welt is amazing from every aspect Car (interior/features): Sound: Logic 7 is very good after you play with settings in EQ and bass/treble. Good, clear, powerful sound with good bass. Definitely better than my FX 300W system (nevertheless I was able to power up backyard parties by rolling down windows and opening rear hatch on FX, kicks pretty good) iPod works great, you see all the songs on the Nav screen and (very important) it reads Russian!!!. In FX it was “??????” instead of letters and I could never understand what song is playing because of that. Same goes for MP3 CD. iDrive: After a few minutes of explanation by Welt guy I was able to navigate trough it with ease I don’t understand how people dislike it, it’s great! Super easy to use and very good interface. Jumping between NAV, iPod/MP3 CD is a breeze. NAV: Boy, this Nav is awesome! You can start with zip code and drill down to streets so easily, makes me hate my FX navigation now. Having ability to do this while driving is priceless. I cannot edit or input anything (except for first 3 entries in address book) on FX while in motion. I have to look for spot to park in order to put the address in. Nav works beautifully. Never got lost Favorite features are 1. input while in motion 2. split screen, different usable info on the 2nd part of the screen, 3. edit options f the route. Interior: Leather, knobs, materials are really nice I got burl wood and cream beige. This combo imo looks and feels expensive In Rome drivers or just people on the street were giving us thumbs up, some just stared or drooled Sometimes we felt like we were in spaceship or some sort due to the way ppl looked at the car. Nice feeling though BTW there are mostly black, silver or dark colored cars over there. Anything bright or white is pretty rare. The ride: Don’t even know where to start, as I probably bored everyone with long post by now. Anyways, we all know how great this car is, how powerful, comfortable etc. I will probably just comment on a few things that are not common to most people 150mph, AS and maybe some more This definitely IS a speed monster! 100 to 150 mph comes soooo quickly! And that’s without shifting, just on 6th gear. The car pulls so hard from 120 and up that it makes you wonder how this can be done so effortlessly. Active Steering: First time I test drove e92 with it I felt in love. Now I even happier with my decision. I’ve been in Alps, autobahn, tight streets of Rome and I cant praise enough this system. It works so transparent that you don’t feel you have it. Mountain back roads in Alps is just perfect for it, yet @ 150mph you it’s solid as a rock. EDIT: Forgot to mention few things 1) Oil temp stayed between 230-250. That includes some of Rome's traffic, spirited driving and just cruising 2) Averaged 23.5 MPG covering whole 1300mil trip with speeds mostly between 100-120 mph 3) First 150mil break in was done in Alps backroads with a lot of shifting and speeds between 20-60mph, after that freeway all the way till Rome at 100-130, varying the speed 4) Phone synced up with the car and was able to see all of my phonebook on the Nav screen, how is that Now it's time to get winters, short shifter knob and maybe lip Thanks for listening, enjoy the pictures WELT PHOTOS Moved from Page 2 Last edited by AndreyATC; 11-12-2007 at 10:41 AM.. |

Great report.
You left out one detail in your delivery day, the multimedia presentation about the car before they delivered it to you. They didn´t skip that, did they?

Congratulation, Andrey!
Nice car, nice report - excellent pictures! P.S. Software update 25.xx.xx was fixed Cyrillic fonts problem in BMW. I think your car on ver. 27.xx.02 right now.

Wow, I certainly missed out on the Welt. Awesome summary and trip you had there. I did ED too, but pre-Welt.

1300 miles for the entire trip in 5 days?! You need an oil change as soon as you get your car back!
I feel gipped about my ED after seeing those pics from Welt! I'm definitely doing ED again just to see it!

Congrats! Fantastic pics. I did ED in 2006 and went to Italy too (see my sig if you want to see my pics). The new BMW welt center looks awesome.
Now for the wait. Ah - the wait... You'll get through and redelivery is sweet, but find yourself a new hobby for the new few weeks if you can. Did you drive around Rome much? I got there and just parked it - it's way too stressful in a brand new car.

I did drive in Rome all that time, never took public transportation I bought bunch of parking stickers (1eu /hr) and used them everywhere in Rome, plus NAV helped a lot Drive was a bit crazy here and there, but not too bad I live in NYC and after years of driving in Manhattan around yellow cabs, nothing scares me anymore |

nice to read about your experience with idrive. I tried it first time on a stand in New York motorshow in 2003, and thought it was totally easy to use. I never got it why journalists hated it in every single review..
Congrats on the car bud! Looks sweet. |
